I use an app called Playtube on my Phone and want to use it on my daughters tab but from what I see its gone from the Google store. Looked for the APK file on the net but cannot find a trusted site. Can I get the APK from my Phone and mail it to the tab?

    What do you suggest.

    Thanks JD.

You'll need to be rooted to have access to the system folders

While I'm not saying to download illegally, you should be fine downloading the apk from one of the unofficial sites. Was it a free app?

You'll need to be rooted to have access to the system folders

You don't need root to backup an APK.

    Install eStrongs File Manager.
Open the app and go into its menu options.
Choose the Tools option and then App Manager.
You'll get a list of all the apps you've installed. Long click on your app.
Check the checkbox and choose Backup at the bottom of the screen.

It'll save the APK to a folder you can grab it from.

On my phone it saves to /storage/sdcard0/backups

    Works fine for me.

    My phone isn't rooted.

That app is available on 1Mobile Market.

    http://m.1mobile.com/search/?keyword=playtube&is_get=1

the link is to the site, there is also a 1Mobile app for your devices, which is handy for apps no longer supported on Google Play.

Im not sure if this will work but I hope so as I have a new phone ordered and a couple of paid apps which I dont want to pay for again (im such a cheapskate).

But theres apk extracter from the play store. You can copy apps from your phone to your sd card.

I've shoved the sd card into my laptop and emailed the apps to myself... Once my new phone comes, I hope I would be able to download it from my email.

Can you try something like that OP and see it if works ?

Try the apk extracter, copy to sd card, use in your laptop and send the file to your email. Then download it to your tablet.

I only hope this works, cause I was able to get an app sent to me via email and I had no bother downloading it. Its copying and pasting.

ES File Explorer does the same.

@timetogo - you are right, no root required.

But paid for apps can usually be installed on many devices....just d/l from play on your new device using your play login details.

Play will know, I have Titanium Back up installed on multiple devices. There is a licence which can also be downloaded, and is installed on your device.

Using apk extractor or similar may have licensing problems, and updating problems.

It us really an invitation to piracy, and I think you will find devs take measures to protect paid apps in various ways.

The app the OP asked about is a free app and he said it's no longer on the store.

    Sorry Cap.

I posted summtin just like yours earlier, I hadn't seen your post...

credit to you regarding paid apps purchased via Play, you can generally just d/l again, and install on any device you have which uses the same Play login.

You may also need to d/l a license "app" but not always.

But, people should also be aware that there are other Stores for Android Apps, and they are a good resource to get those Apps which fall foul of Google's T&C's, for whatever reason.

Some are shown in this article:

Best Google Play Store alternative app stores

I would also recommend 1Mobile and Aptoide....

both work best installed on your device.
