Dublin Airport Security - Hiking Poles

    Hey,

Anyone know if Dublin airport allow hiking poles through security in hand luggage?

And while on the subject, if DAA allow them, do Aer Lingus allow them?

The small print doesn't seem to mention them specifically, but they are sharp and pointy - so I bet they could stop them under that description.

    Thanks

We had to put hiking poles in our checked luggage flying from Dublin last year. I could have sworn I'd brought them through in my hand luggage before but DAA staff were insistant

    Thanks for that MissFlitworth.
I got a reply from DAA - but I still reckon it'd depend on who's on security on the day.
DAA said; "Thank you for your query. If the hiking poles have spikes at the end then no they are not allowed but if they have a flat rubber tip then yes they are allowed."

Ours had flat rubber tips and not spikes but no joy, we could just have asked the wrong person though! We asked a DAA guy floating around the Aer Lingus check in rather than up at security

On a similar note can you bring a golf umbrella through security?

Emailed Aer Lingus but got an automated response suggesting I ring them. No chance ringing one of those numbers!

I travelled with my father in May (on Aer Lingus and through Dublin airport). He had hiking poles with rubber tips (can't think of the correct term) and got through with hand luggage no problem.

Interesting as rang DAA today and after checking they said I could bring it. Also going through a few months ago and one of the security lads said same.

Hope it works out on the day!

Security have no say on the Airlines baggage policy, I know multiple people have been refused at the gate with a golf umbrella and ended up dumping it as it could only be checked in.

Normal compact umbrella would be fine as it fits within the dimensions of carry on luggage.

But I guess you could chance it ;)
