Static IP's connecting to them

    I have an eircom BB service and they have just supplied me with a static IP. I've verified the IP and its correct. Ultimately I want to open port forwarding for cctv cameras, but I am having trouble connecting to the static IP address.

    For example, when connected to the Local network I can access the router via 192.168.1.254 as you would expect. I can also access it from the static IP address too. However, outside of the local network, I cannot connect to the Static IP address at all. Even if I try and ping the static IP, I get Request timeouts.

    Am I doing something wrong here?

    Thats the firewall doing its job. ICMP (Ping) is disabled on the internet side to stop bots trawling the net from locating you etc.

    The web interface is disabled from the internet for security, best left that way unless you really need it.

    Assign the cameras a LOCAL static IP (or the DVR)
    Forward their port to that IP
    Connect to your IP remotely and away you go.

    Your router will be configured to firewall off any access from outside including ICMP (ping) to protect you from external traffic. You'll need to make sure the forwarded port you want to access is opened on the firewall.

    Thanks for that. The DVR has been set up with a local static IP no problem, and I can connect to it via the IP address on the local network.
    I've tried to set up port forwarding for it, but not having much luck I don't think.

    The router I'm using is an eircom D1000, and from the info I can find on the DVR, it says when setting up forwarding to create three rules, as described here I've changed the port numbers to match what the DVR is (80, 37777 and 37778) respectively. I've lowered the firewall too, but whenever I use the static IP to connect I still get a timeout. even with :80 after the IP address

    The only distinction I can find is that the router I'm using has external start and end ports as well as open start and end ports for each rule instead of just starting and ending ports.

    I must be missing something.

    Use Nmap and/or shields up to verify the forward is active.

    The external ports and internal ports should match. If the current setup doesnt work try 80-81, 37777-37778 etc.

    Ok, Try as I might I cannot get anywhere with this thing. Starting to bug me now.

    I've set up port forwarding as below

    I've tried removing the 80 port, but all it does is allow me to access the router via the static IP. If its there, I cannot access the router (All on the local network)

    Here's my DVR settings.

    The firewall is currently off, until I get this working then I'll set it back to 0.

    As it stands, I can log in to the DVR via 192.168.1.199 locally, but I cannot via the static IP. If I use the static IP, I get the router login page when on the local network.

    Any of the port checkers tell me that the ports are closed for my IP address, which is the static one.


    Any Suggestions?

    Your DVR default gateway is set to 192.168.1.1 - this should be the same as your router which is 192.168.1.254

    Port 80 is most likely blocked by your ISP.

    Eircom dont block 80 I'm pretty sure.
