Should I call them or leave it?

Two months ago, I applied for a position in a company which really interested me from a personal and professional perspective. 3 weeks ago, the HR person from the company emailed me informing me that they were reviewing applications for the position but they will not be commencing the interview process for another few weeks, as certain members of staff were on annual leave. The HR person ended the email by stating that he would be in touch again soon. I took this mail as a clear indication that I was in with a shot of an interview for the position, much to my delight.

I am now in a position where another offer has come my way and while it is nice to have the offer, the role above is still massively attractive to me. Is there any harm is contacting the HR person querying whether or not the role above is still open? If it is, I would happily reject the offer that I have and stay put in my current role if I have a shot at the role above.

Firstly sorry to burst your bubble but I would not take the HR person ending the e-mail stating that he would be in touch again soon as any indication that you will be called to interview. He is being polite and probably said the same to everyone ...

I do think it is worth contacting them however to see what they say (perhaps even phoning them for an immediate answer?)

    Good luck anyway :)
