Reading some of the comments and replys it seems if you sign up on August 28th for example. You will get 1 month from that date for one euro.

    Interesting.

Did you give them the months notice ? I availed of this deal last December and they've given me a deal price right up to August. I found them fine to deal with and they responded to all my emails . I see now its gone up to 21.99e monthly so I wont pay so interesting to see what they'll offer when my 9.99e deal expires next month.

No i didnt want to get rid of the service I just forgot about updating them with my new card number, but they annoyed me with the constant calls and voicemails so they can stick it now, I have another card I can use if I want it anyway

    Thanks OP.

Hopefully when the t&cs come out it will be like Christmas and there will be no notice period to cancel, ie just ring after the month is up and cancel there and then.

I got this email after signing up for the e1-for-the-month offer.

"Terms and Conditions of €1 offer: A connection fee of €1 applies for this service. Offer available online only. Offer available for credit card and debit card customers only. You can cancel your subscription in the first 30 days by going online."

Anyone know where the "online" area for cancelling is?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭P_Cash

i took the €1 deal for dec last year, and managed to get 9.99 a month for the rest of the season .. 3 months at a time. .

What's the deal with the "Customer Service Number" that must be put in to cancel on that page? I've only had the confirmation of order email from Setanta and I see no mention of any Customer Service Number on that (Except for the phone number at the bottom of course, but I'm guessing it's a unique number they're looking for and not their own phone number)

there's just the 1 number for contacting them ;)

He means, the website to cancel is looking for a customer service number, but he doesn't seem to see it on the email he got?

    Is this true?

Anyone else used the online cancelling option?

Yes, this is what I meant. The second field on the cancellation form is a customer service number with the description:
    Finding your customer service number
Your customer service number is located at the top your welcome letter.

All I received was the order confirmation email, and no further email and certainly no welcome letter with any sort of number other than my viewing card.

Looking around the internet, wading through everything to do with their phone number, I found one reference on their Twitter, https://twitter.com/SetantaSports/status/495171505492213760

Has anyone else using the €1 deal received a service number or are we all supposed to call them before we can even cancel online?

Checked my email for it, didnt see that number...
    Finding your customer service number:

Probably get the letter in September! They want you to ring, and then they will try twisting your arm to stay!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭P_Cash

Ya, Sher may as well ring then.

    But, I suppose, I want an offer, . .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 46,548 ✭✭✭✭muffler

I didnt get the customer service number either but after the €1/month offer is up they are putting me on €9.99/month for 3 months and I dont have to contact them....well not until I want to cancel the extended offer. :)

How do u know you're going on a 9.99 a month after, and not needing to ring?

I had an issue with them earlier in the year whereby they had to refund money and as well as apologising they told me to contact them in August and they would "look after me" so I contacted them online a couple of weeks ago.

Im not really getting anything more than anyone else as such other than them agreeing to the 9.99 offer without the need for me to contact them before the 1 euro offer runs out. Thats about the limit of of them "looking after me" :(

I'll join next Sat for the 1 Eur deal, then ring to cancel but will check back here first to see what deal I should expect

Is the 1 euro deal and subsequent 9.99 deals only available to people on sky?

Im in an apartment block that is wired for UPC. I've got an X-box so will watch sky sports through sky go but would like the other games too. Thing is I'll only really watch the football on TV so I won't sign up for any TV package at all (will just get internet) if I'm not able to get setanta for a reasonable price.

I'll be paying an extra an extra 23 to get tv channels added to my UPC package no way am I paying 21.99 for setanta on top of that. Does anyone know if UPC customers can haggle down to 9.99 too?

I signed up for this and cancelled through the website.

There 100% was a customer number on one of the emails they sent me, think it was the one that initially welcomed me to SS, it was near the bottom of the mail, 5 or 6 digits long.

It took me ages to spot it though so it isn't at all clear what it is.

Plus if memory serves it's not actually called a customer number.

Just cancelled via the link. No Setanta HD means no taking up if it at the price offered, far too dear.

Got through and cancelled. I was led to believe i would get a full month for the 1 euro offer, not 3 weeks, which was signed up on the 6th and cancelled today the 27th. He said it would be cancelled immediately but its still there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭P_Cash

Are ye not been offered any deal on cancellation ?

Ya, I spoke to them before about not even the lack of setanta HD, but just the poor quality of the standard channel, makes my std sky sports look like HD

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,261 ✭✭✭OldRio

Am I right in thinking you get 30 days from the day you signed up? eg 30 days from the 26th of August

It took a couple of hours to switch off for me yesterday. BT's HD channels immediately switched around though before I even got back to the box from the phone.

You get 30 days for €1 however their T's & C's state a 30 day cancellation notice is required. I cancelled mine online the day after signing up, thinkin I'd get the full month but not having to worry about the cancellation caveat however the channels were removed within an hour of me cancelling online.

    Hi
So what do I need to do to get it set up just for the 1 month and ensure I cancel in time to avoid any further payment ? There appears to be different ideas from everyone how to work it successfully just for the 1 euro.

I am going to get it done for my elderly dad so he can enjoy some more sport for the 1 month and dont want the hassle of him getting billed un-necessarily after the 1 month has passed.
I want 30 days @ 1 euro for him, nothing else.

If I have 30 days cancellation notice to give them, that in theory should be more or less given the same day I sign up ?
Or how do i work it so I dont get billed extra.?
    Thanks for the help.

Any date on expiry for this?

Wouldn't mind seeing how many United games they have for next month.

taking the 30 day rule from today the united games you will get are

    burnley v utd 30/8/14
    utd v west ham 27/9/14

so best bet is to ring them this saturday morning the 30 and email the cancellations on the 27th after the west ham game

Sounds like they could hang people that wait till the 30 days is up, forcing the next month pymt. And 30 days viewing.

Still a good deal, 23 quid for 2 months viewing.

    I'll sign up sat morning

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,072 ✭✭✭Dan Chipowski

Rang to cancel today, wasn't offered any reduced rate and when I said I'd take it for €9.99 a month, they said there was nothing they could do on the price.

Still a decent month's viewing for a euro.
