Best small phone

Just wondering what you reckon is the best small phone out there. I cannot get used to phablets and at the moment have a Galaxy Ace 2 which is starting to slow down quite a bit lately. I am happy enough with that kind of size but a friend bought an S3 recently, havind dumped his mini and said that mini phones are just not up to the standard of their larger counterparts, especially in terms of battery life. Any suggestions?

Moto G - all day long. Buy on Meteor / Amazon. Newest version has 4G + SD Card slot if that floats your boat. If not, just buy on Meteor Store and pop in your own SIM and it locks to that network. Alternatively, unlock codes are available for £2 on eBay (I've used it 5 times, its legit).

Sidenote: I've used Android since day 1 with the HTC G1 and just sold an Xperia Z1 for a Moto G - it really is an excellent value phone.

Cheers. How does it shape up against the S4 Mini? I am kind of used to using Samsung at this point.

You should really be comparing it to the s4, not the mini. It's a budget phone with the performance of a flagship. The only thing that lets it down it's the average 5mp camera

Let's not get carried away. It's an excellent phone and by the far the best in it's price range but in no way does it have similar spec to the S5, Z2 or M8, or even the previous gen flagships.

Under €200 definitely moto G. If you want top spec in a smaller size I think the Sony Z1 compact or newer upcoming Z2 compact are the only available with flagship spec in a 'small' (4.5" screen and below) size.

I never said it did, it's just Samsung Android devices with Samsung's own software layer (Touchwiz) are known for their sluggishness and lag. The Moto G with much lower specs and a lighter version of Android feels snappier

Maybe in the lower level models but the flagships models that you were comparing the Moto G to are certainly not known for lag or sluggish performance.

As I said the Moto G is one of the best in it's class but it's performance is certainly not equivilant to the flagship phone models.

I've used an S4 and read most of the reviews. I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one.

I am in need of a new phone. I spent days looking at phones. So much recommendations for this moto g phone, that I looked into it some more and I quite like the sound of it and from youtube videos. I was going to go for a sony xperia z or z1 but then I read reviews that the screen just cracks, balls to that. But then I'm also on a budget, so its best I keep away from buying fancier phones.

You guys better be right, I've it ordered from amazon.

I've used s4 for a short while too, touchwiz is a horrible experience and yes it did just stand there doing nothing momentarily some times. I moved to as Nexus 5 which feels miles faster.

Wow. So even at the S4 that is still an issue? It is one of the main reasons I am ready to move on from my Ace 2 tbh
