So basically they're standing there scratching their arses, watching burnt out shopping trollies getting their wheels nicked.

Still better than RTE1 on a Monday night.

Take a trip to Nutgrove in Rathfarnham. The travellers have started burning their own houses now

That's nothing new. Most of those houses are on their third iteration at this stage.

    Then there's this:
Waste of taxpayers money. Leave them at it.

 it's not like this presents any risk to the public or anything..

Yep and until the council get serious about it they know that if they keep on burning their free houses down they will be rebuilt over and over at the taxpayers expense. I know the house / houses you are talking about. I'd like to know if an arson investigation is ongoing and if not, then why not? Also if they want to burn their council built houses down, let them continue and don't build any new ones for them unless they pay for the cost of the repair / rebuild. The housing lists are insanely long at this stage with families being accomodated in hotels etc. yet you can be sure that funds will be found as a priority for rebuilding those houses first.

Anyway, it's interesting that in the Journal the people involved in this are clearly named as travellers yet in the always P.C. RTE report no mention or hint is given about that fact. They are just refered to as two "groups". Always have to read between the lines with RTE.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,563 ✭✭✭dd972

Even the Travellers probably call Dunsink Lane ''North Glasnevin'' as they're embarrassed by Finglas.

Watching RTE, I thought it had kicked off again between Aslan and U2.

all jokes aside, the Gardaí used to send in the nuns to sort out any feuds between travellers at the halting site between Darndale and Coolock. There was always instant respect for the nuns..

Maybe they should send in some sort of modern day equivalent, like that Scoucer wedding dress maker one.

    Feckin love her they do.

It's not a hugely relevant comment though. I seriously dislike the journal and would often be banging my head off the wall reading the comment section. Not this time though, tbh.

Yeah it's a bit like trying to defend North Korea by saying they do a great job on the Arirang Mass Games.

No, no - don't look at the massive steaming pile of crap, look at that one tiny little flower that has grown from it...

Oh a traveller thread on boards?
Got to be careful what we say now. Mods will be micro-scanning every post :pac:

Actually on the subject of boards.ie and the removal of certain posts. I just don't get it. Like boards.ie is here to make money. It's owned by Distilled Media. It's a business. Thats cool :) But how does some jackass like myself reflect the owners?

I'm not sure if nuns could sort this feud out. If it's the halting site I'm thinking of pretty near Cappagh Hospital then there's a grotto with the Holy Mary standing in it right inside the entrance. If Mary herself can't keep these lads from fightin' then the nuns would have little hope.

Hmmm wonder if it's just coincidence we are almost at the 10 year anniversary of the Dunsink Lane stand-off.

Jaysus you can't be arresting travellers over disturbing the peace and in general causing trouble. That'd be racist. It's part of their culture you see.

If you were holding up a big mirror, walking past the shelbourne and one of them happened to catch a glimpse of themselves?? :D

Are they still standing off, or did the novelty wear off? Someone ought to throw a few shovels, some gloves and a load of bags into the street, cos usually, at the first sign of a bit of work...that'd be like garlic to a vampire.

If this was any other country( bar England ). Most of the travellers would have been battered back to the stone age a long time ago. But of coarse in little old Ireland we have to put up with this nonsense.

Just there road still closed off loads of Cops loads of cars full off likly lads, some one Gard with a 3ft iron bar in his hand traffic chaos. Loads of sirens i think its kicking off again.

And 'little old' England. We are not good at dealing with protesters in this country or in the UK. We are far too nicey-nincey with them, wasting money and resources playing with them.

I worked on the cappagh site when it was being built, they had a few clan wars even back then. Fun times for sure

Most of those folk are pure scum. Where I'm living has a halting site to the back of us and their lovely little off spring get up on the wall and fire marbles from slingshots towards the cars and houses they damaged a few windscreens 2 days ago they really are little dirtbags that can do as they please.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,108 ✭✭✭ShagNastii

Am I the only one that think it’s ludicrous that the road is closed and countless Guards are stationed at the incident. I’d imagine it is as soul destroying for them as it is for us.

I can think as a million things I’d prefer to see them doing than refereeing a pack of buffoons playing Braveheart up on some halting site.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 431 ✭✭6781

Either the Gardai should go in hard and make an example of them and show that society won't accept this kind of behaviour or let them go at each other which will probably work out better for society if they wipe each other out. But the Gardai just watching them is a waste of time

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

10 o clock news said there was an air support unit and armed Gardai on the scene. What an utter load of stupid carry on.

Still ongoing it seems. That's a lot of Garda manpower and traffic disruption for a few dozen people.
