1 week end Sept, couple+3 yr old, Portugal - package or Ryanair?

Just wondering what the consensus is here?

Thinking about a week in the Algarve at the end of September, either booking Ryanair flights to Faro and hotel separately, or doing the package deal.

If looking for last minute packages - when's the best time for end of September?

Any general thoughts on which option is best? Or recommendations for where to go for a couple with a 3 year old?

    Thanks!

The only difference is going to be the hassle factor of having to book transfers holiday insurance as well as the flight and hotel yourself, although you do get a wider range of hotels when booking it yourself.

I would book everything separately in that case. The Algarve is a relatively small area and there are several companies you can use that will arrange transfers for you and they aren't that expensive. You can save a lot of money by booking it separately and you have a lot more choice for hotels/apartments. There are places where I'd prefer a package deal, but for the Algarve I wouldn't want to pay extra for that.

On the transfers, my family were in the Algarve for a wedding last month & we all used ResortHoppa for the airport transfers. Not a single one of us had a complaint with them. The quoted price was 32 euros per person return, but we only paid 27ish as they were offering a discount at the time of booking. They use 8 seater passenger minivans, not a big coach. So even if the driver is dropping other travelers off at other hotels and resorts before yours, there won't be a ton of them to do, before yours.
