    What's it like?

In the film Withnail and I, Withnail is almost always drunk. Richard E Grant who played him can't drink due to a mild alcohol allergy but the director made him get really drunk just once to see what it was like.

I have been giddy but i never really drink at all and only one drink usually on the rare occasion i do.

    So what is it like?

I wonder what Lou.m would be like drunk....drunk fairy ..hmmm

You need to be drunk to moderate this place, otherwise you'd go mad.

For a lot of people You forget about the bad for a little while, you get brass balls, and your more open, an instant happy, for others it's the complete opposite.

I hate to break it to you OP but I think you may be properly drunk as we speak.

I know it might look normal to you but none of the words in your post are spelled correctly and some aren't even English.
Also I know you think you've embedded YouTube videos of Withnail and I but you've actually just put MSPaint bitmaps of Hitler.

Again, you mightn't see this but that just proves how drunk you are, seriously ask any of the other posters.

Well, that explained absolutely fooking nothing for the OP.

I assume the OP has been told that most AH regulars are drunk or high all the time. It explains the logic that we make. I'll let Hitler explain the rest.

I've been smashed for the past 10 days, you are missing out OP. Nothing beats the feeling of offending the general public and feeling like **** every morning.

I was only ever drunk once and that was when I was sixteen and had a half bottle of vodka.

I was absolutely plastered; couldn't see what was in front me, my legs didn't work and I felt kinda blind.
Horrible feeling; felt vulnerable and worried.

Don't ever want to feel like that again.
I've been tipsy plenty of times but it's a nice feeling; happy and chilled and full of chat and laughs.

    Never drunk.

I get really hungry and really horny and my standards for both drop further which each drink.

So much so that I once shagged a sheep and eat a cat.

I ran into the local garage, knocked over a display of TicTacs, told a woman I thought her curly hair was horrible and had a conversation with a tube of Pringles.
    I don't know how I got home.
I just remember my mother laying me on my side and telling me "we'll have words in the morning."

I had one drink yesterday and I felt really tipsy :o I find drinking more hassle than its worth lately and if you feel bad and drink its a right downer, much rather other vices.

It's like being in a barn surrounded by thousands of human sized turkeys, and everybody's looking for the exit door, but nobody can find it, and no one can understand any body, and it's just relentless, and then u end up in the back of a taxi with a kebab in your hand outside your house. The End.

Did my fair share of drinking, heard all the 1lliners and clinches up until now.

    I'll use this line again.

I've only been properly drunk two or three times in my life. The last time was around seven years ago, after a graduation ceremony. Apparently I seemed completely sober and normal (in fairness, the 'normal' part should have rung alarm bells), but I can remember none of it. All I know is that the hangover lasted two and a half days.

    I don't enjoy alcohol. I prefer tea.

most artificial feeling of happiness if there ever was one. Only takes a sober person to be surrounded by a group of drunks to realize how pathetic and pointless it is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,745 ✭✭✭Macavity.

Affects everyone differently but for me it's just a wonderful feeling of elation and assurance that everything will be okay. Of course this would be the early stages of drunkeness and may actually fall under tipsy.

You're missing out on the chance to slur your speech, lose either your wallet/purse, mobile phone or your house keys. You're also missing out on the chance to wake up on sundays with a headache, severe dehydration and mysterious bruses on your body, which you will have no explaination of.

I haven't been really off my head in years - stupidly merry does me these days.

The last time I think was about 81. I woke up with a broken front tooth with no recollection whatsoever how.

    You're missing nothing Lou.

Most I've ever gotten was being a little tipsy, light-headedness... I've never been drunk out of my mind doing stuff I normally wouldn't be doing otherwise, and being unable to remember the previous night - don't see the appeal of drinking to such a state.

Being drunk is borrowing the next day's happiness. You feel great while you're drinking - you get happier by the drink (to a point, usually) and have a great time, then the next day it feels like you'll never be well again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,785 ✭✭✭Aglomerado

It's grand. The following morning isn't however. (Only yesterday morning I threw up in a bush having overdone it the previous night.)

For me drinking works. I get absolutely ****faced, spend the next day squirming in bed for an hour or 2 after waking up, have something to eat and I'm fine. I don't get why so many people assume that other people get hangovers like they do. If I got those kind of hangovers I wouldn't drink. So now who's the alcoholic? Me, who doesn't get hangovers or the people who are so desperate for a fleeting moment of happiness they'll make themselves feel like the world is ending?!

Older i get the more i see how overrated alcohol is. Far more depressive qualities than cannabis based on my own experience. Having tried pretty much all drugs during a (somewhat) misspent youth, i would put alcohol up there with the dangerous ones.

After a few years in my youth of drinking way too much on occasion I ended up fairly hammered a good few times. Nothing nice about it. There's different degrees of drunkenness, the early stages were always grand for me. but after that you just get into a state, become louder & obnoxious, lose the ability to concentrate on a conversation or focus.... basically you become an arsehole!

I still enjoy a drink from time to time, but I now luckily know 'the one that's one too many'. And I'm able to decide "OK, that's enough" and I'll either head off home, or stay socialising but simply stop drinking. I generally go for quality over quantity now, so I'd prefer to have one or two decent beers rather than just knocking back gallons of any old shyte 'just to be sociable'.

It's like you're invincible and incredibly attractive and really witty.
Which is all the more amazing considering you can't walk a straight line, your eyes stare into the distance and most of your sentences hang in the middle.

The key part is surviving as a free individual (not arrested) until the next morning and having witnesses to what you got up to the night before. That makes it all worthwhile.
And being able to find the keys of the car.

It's no fun. After a series of carefully controlled imbibing experiments, I now stop drinking before embarrassing drunkeness sets in.

I have a condition where I don't metabolise alcohol. I can get drunk in the sense of I cant walk or function correctly but I have never had a beer buzz. Also drinking makes my face turn into a beetroot. I never understood what people saw in drinking but I've since discovered its because I cant actually understand it :(

Jesus, there's a lot of negativity in this thread towards alcohol.

The pleasure you get in being hammered just depends on the context:

Being hammered at a gig with a load of similarly drunk friends is great.

Getting hammered to try and lessen your nerves before a presentation by is not.
