    Sbybet Dash York 3:30

    Ancient Cross
is getting a bit long in the tooth at this stage but he has been steadily coming into form this year, and I wouldn’t be that surprised to see him improve for the step up to 6 here off a mark below his Silver Cup win from last year with a 7lbs claimer on board. 25/1 looks a bit of value.

Was going to unload a serious bet at Ascot but will hold fire on account of today's rain. Will see how the jockeys describe it after the first. I'd say a few can work out which horse I'm on about

Are the price wise horses out yet?? Boyles won't let me back a certain horse(the risk control have rejected bet message) who has dropped in price, just wondering is it a price wised

There's one horse tomorrow who I have serious interest in and it's running at York in the Group 2 York stakes.

    Danadana 9/2 2.55 York

Not pricewise. He went for Don't Call Me and Watchable in that.

Fort Bastion still 50s with Bet365.

    3.30 York

    Zalty 10/1

The drop back to a sprinting trip and the application of first time blinkers worked wonders as he was an unlucky 2nd in the valuable Paddy Power Scurry on his last start and although raised 6lb for that effort I think he's got to be bang in contention again today. Since making a winning debut over 6f at Dundalk on his sole 2 year old starts, Zalty was kept at 7f and a mile on his next 11 starts winning twice as a 3 year old and running credibly on his first 3 starts this year over 7f before the drop back to a sprinting trip brought out a career best. In the valuable Premier Handicap at The Curragh at the end of last month, the low drawn Zalty tracked the pace on the far side group and brought a strong challenge to lead his group at the furlong pole. He kept on well for jockey Conor Hoban but had to settle for the runners up spot behind Line Of Reason as he went down by 3/4L. The reason why I feel Zalty was unlucky is because The Curragh has a very strong bias for those who are drawn high and for Zalty to run so well from his low draw was a superb effort in my view as the 1st, 3rd and 4th were all drawn high. Additionally the form of that race looks extremely strong with the winner Line Of Reason scoring subsequently well off a 7lb higher mark whilst the slightly unlucky 3rd home Discussiontofollow (who I think is a Pattern Class horse) has won a valuable Heritage Handicap at Ascot off a 3lb higher mark and I've no doubt the race will work out very well. The winner that day Line Of Reason is again in opposition today but from an 8lb higher handicap mark (11lb racing weight) I'd be confident that David Marnane's charge will be able to reverse that form. The superb Connor King makes the trip over from Ireland with the horse for this sole engagement and his 3lb claim is tremendously valuable in races of this nature. Although I'd have preferred a more central draw than stall 2, there didn't seem a huge bias on the straight sprint course at York yesterday and the speedy pair of Bogart and See The Sun are drawn beside Zalty which should suit him ideally. If the blinkers work again this time around, I think he's got to have an outstanding chance and hopefully he can land this valuable prize for his Irish raiding party.

The below isn't the horse I referred to earlier!

    4.25 Ascot

    Lord Of The Dance 20/1

Don't really see the point in going each way on Mick Mullineax's 8 year old as I think he'll either win this or be tailed off but given that he bolted up in this contest last year by 7L off a 5lb higher mark I just can't leave him unbacked at 20/1. A horse that either blows hot or cold, its not surprising that this gelding's last 6 wins have been at 16/1 or bigger given his propensity to leave a shocking run behind him before bouncing back to win and I'm hoping that's exactly what happens today. In 4 runs this year, Lord Of The Dance has been beaten by at least 10 lengths on each occasion which has seen the handicapper drop him 9lb to a mark of 77 and if he can rediscover the form in this contest last year then he'd probably already be home and hosed. Unfortunately, horse racing isn't as simplistic as that and you've just got to hope that he's had this valuable prize as his target all season. The trainer's daughter Michelle is back in the saddle today having been on board last year and she clearly gets on well with this animal as they are a perfect 1-1 thus far and I'm hoping that record can stay intact. This is a rare 4th runner for the yard at Ascot whose Cheshire base is 177 miles away from the course and, although recent form figures give him no chance, if Lord Of The Dance has indeed been targeted at this race specifically then hopefully Michelle Mullineaux can parter this 8 year old to successive Ladies Longines handicaps.

I also like 3.55 Newmarket Greeb 12/1 who landed a nice on course gamble when taking on his elders in good style at Doncaster and who I think is still a few lbs ahead of the handicapper despite a 7lb rise and who should go well for the Charlie Hills yard that won this last year.

    Pastoral Player 3.15 Ascot 25/1

The International Handicap once again looks to be one of the hardest handicaps of the year to break down and with 30 runners and the field 7/1, it’s not one you’d want to be putting the mortgage on, but I thought Pastoral Player is worth a chance each way with five places being paid. A really talented gelding, it is disappointing that he only has five wins to his name, the first of which was first time out at Newmarket back in 2009, and it wasn’t until October 2010 before getting his head in front again, winning over 6 furlongs at Ffos Lass off a mark of 92, before repeating the feat at Newmarket in May 2011, winning a good race comfortably off a mark of 96.
He contested some of the hottest handicaps around that summer, running well without winning, including when a 2 lengths third over six furlongs on soft ground at this course in the Wokingham at Royal Ascot off a mark of 103, and ran his best race of his career when winning well over this course and distance off a mark of 101 at the end of that season.

He primarily contested group races thereafter, winning a 7 furlong Group 3 on quick ground at Haydock in the summer of 2012 (his last victory), he was only just denied in the Gr.2 Summer Mile again at Ascot the following month, and was beaten a short head in the same race he had won at Haydock the year previously last year. He’s only had two runs this year, both over this course and distance, running well on his first run back this season when 6th behind Gabriel’s Lad off a mark of 100 (finished close to Ayaar who is a general 10/1 shot for tomorrow) and shaped really well last time at Royal Ascot, catching the eye when finishing 10th, beaten 5 ½ lengths when he caught the eye having been drawn on the wrong side, winning his group that day. I have backed him earlier in the week at 33/1 though the draw is offputting given that he has been drawn in stall 1. Despite this I think he could still go well and is still overpriced at 25/1 at a track he runs extremely well at.

    Magician 3.50 Ascot 5/1

Such a price on this horse makes it look like an each way bet to nothing, and it’d be extremely disappointing if he couldn’t finish in the first three here. The top two in the market Telescope and Taghrooda are plenty short at their prices, and this fella should arguably be favourite given his proven Group 1 form and he comes into the race with the highest rating of 124. He has proven himself to be a smart colt, landing the Dee Stakes at Chester first time out last season in easy fashion before landing a bit of a touch when readily winning a below par Irish 2000 Guineas last season, with Trading Leather back in third who he re-opposes tomorrow. He then went for the Gr.1 St James’ Stakes at Royal Ascot again over a mile, holding every chance before being hampered and subsequently injured, coming home in his own time.

He was off the track until the Breeders’ Cup thereafter, where he had his finest hour, wearing down The Fugue in the last strides under an outstanding ride by Ryan Moore to land the Breeders’ Cup Turf over 1 ½ miles on firm going. He returned this season when running disappointingly at Meydan, and it took a long time for him to pass Parish Hall at the Curragh but he did it with a bit more to spare than the neck win margin suggests, and he fared better than the result may suggest when only second to Noble Mission in the Tattersalls Gold Cup on ground softer than ideal. He ran right up to his best when runner up here last time when a clear second to his old adversary The Fugue over a trip probably below his optimum. Stepped back up to 1 ½ miles tomorrow he should go well for Aidan O’Brien who won this last with Duke of Marmalade in 2008.

Of the others, the exciting filly Taghrooda is feared most with all of her weight and sex allowances, but it is extremely difficult for a 3 year old filly to beat the boys and her elders at this stage of the season, though she could prove a filly of some use. Telescope is a woeful price at 5/2 after his course and distance success last time out over Hillstar, impressive as it was the form isn’t strong. Eagle Top has gotten the pricewise treatment and is hence so short, probably one of the worst prices I’ve seen all summer. How he can be a point shorter than a duel Gr.1 winner getting his optimum conditions is beyond belief. Trading Leather rarely runs a bad race and could grab a place, but it would be disappointing if he were good enough to win, he is a horse who is quite hard to win with despite his consistency

He's the one I was referring to about the serious bet. If the rain hadn't fallen I would have had a proper, proper bet on him. Will wait to see what the jockeys say after the first.

good stuff have had a nibble on him already - Hugh Taylor has put him up as a 2 point win. He has also put up Lord of the Dance and Mukhadram

Given that the weather is lovely in Ascot, I've had a very nice bet on 2.40 Ascot American Hope 8/1. He's a horse I put up at Royal Ascot when a very unlucky 6th over C+D in the Brittania as he was undone by the draw as he led home his unfavoured group. He travelled powerfully throughout the race on what was his turf and handicap debut and at the 2f pole Shane Kelly got there still tanking along with no choice but to kick on. He definitely idled a bit in front as the high drawn numbers filled the first 5 places but I've no doubt at all that he would have gone very close had he been drawn high. The handicapper leaving him on an unchanged mark of 99 seems very generous to me and the 4th home on his side Table Rock has since gone on to win a handicap and Listed race on his next 2 starts. I'd have been ridiculously confident of victory had the rain not arrived but if it's generally good ground come race time I think he's going to take a huge amount of beating.

    York 2:20

    Mezzotint
is one I’ve been keeping an eye on with his falling mark and after a half decent run last time out I get the feeling that he may well be ready to run well today. He also has headgear back on and is back down to his last winning mark. 16/1 looks a bit of value.

    1 Point win 16/1 Various

I like this, think it's good value. Ran ok last time when trying to led to line from 6f out.
A very low weight today and a more patient ride could see it in with a chance.

This is what Mike Murphy said after the run in the Britannia

"The pacemakers on the far side fell away leaving American hope in front at the 2f marker which was earlier than ideal as he could have done with a lead to inside the final furlong pole"

I don't understand why you sit him 2nd. Guessing it wasn't Shane Kelly's instructions.

The funny thing is if it made its debut in Galway next week as a half brother to famous name it probably would have went off even money,7/1 at wexford some drift looks ok aswell might be a nice long distance horse.
