Any 747s due any time soon?

    Hi folks,
My boy (8) has just entered his plane-mad phase, and I've promised him a day-trip to the airport during the summer holidays. He'd love to see a 747 but I guess they're pretty rare these days, sadly ....

If I keep an eye on this forum from day to day, I guess I won't miss if there's one due in any time soon? Or anything interesting that's not a scheduled flight, for that matter ...?

Btw, there's not much about Shannon in this forum. Is that because Shannon is just so quiet compared to the old days? When I was a kid, you could spend a day in Shannon in the summer months and literally anything could appear.

    Thanks!
    /M.

Infrequent visits from 747s these days, think AF cargo is only 77F. Kalita Air did have one over at some stage last year but difficult to plan against. Think BA have come to visit once or twice but these were unscheduled due to weather at LHR.

I recently got 2 return tickets to Manchester with Ryanair, €39.98 TOTAL and stayed a saturday night in the airport hilton. You could definitely do a day trip, hop a taxi (£6ish) to the viewing park and spend the day there. Emirates A380s, Thomson 787s, Virgin 747s, etc. Cafe, Concorde, shop all on site. For about €100 incl short term parking you could have a great day out.

If you type into google AFR6735 every Friday evening you'll see the arrival time of the Air France Cargo into Dublin, it comes from Chicago, leaves Friday evening there, arrives here on Saturday morning, its serviced by a 777F now but you get the 744F in every now and then, it was in a couple of weeks ago.
Here's a link to see how it looks, 777F is also a lovely plane to see landing / taking off on a sunny day.

There is a cargo 747 just landing at SNN right now! Guessing it won't be long before it leaves again though..I'd have no idea when either.

Croke Park Classic Weekend is fast approaching. Do any of you folks in the know in EIDW have more info about the US Charters coming for the event, like in previous years?

    Thanks.

Any update on this flight ? - As the game is on the night of the 30th, wouldn't it be coming in the day before

I would imagine that the amount of equipment required for a televised US College Football game would be similar to that of a small army on the move.
Keep an eye out for the teams and cargo to arrive on Wednesday and Thursday, with spectators arriving on Thursday and Friday and a "mass exodus" on Saturday night and Sunday morning.

United 747-4 and Atlas Air 767-3 both due into DUB tomorrow morning and the F-16 fly past will happen before the game but no definite time for it has been announced yet.

Thanks Oscar. Do you know if it will be possible to track the 747 in the morning? I'd like to see her land, and I believe she's due in at 11.00, but if she's delayed by a couple of hours I mightn't be able to.
    Thanks again,
    /M.

Well match starts at 1230 so just before would be appropriate for a flyover of any kind!

28 viewing area or down by the next set of lights passed the GAA grounds go up on the embankment to your left cut the walk in half, you'll see it land and roll passed you.

For clarity walk passed the viewing area to the lights turn right and anywhere on your left hand side the raised embankment will give views over the airport fencing.

Haha easily done. I'd only go just passed the entrance to the long term car park by about 100m or so and go up the embankment you will catch her touching down just to your left and roll passed you.

I'm on an iphone so I could only get a very low quality video if that's any good to you? I have a lovely spot up on the left embankment behind a maintenance shed
