hi everyone i really need some legal advice about my marriage as I've just received some shocking news from my wife .

i got married in may this year in an asian country to a woman from the same country. i went to the irish embassy for approval but the marriage hasn't been registered in ireland.

a few days ago my wife told me she is already married in the uk. she married a compatriot just over two years ago for certain reasons. our relationship progressed rapidly and she was scared to tell me until finally admitting it as she will go to uk to try to end this other marriage. she has the agreement of the other guy and we expect no problems as our marriage is not known outside this asian country.

so i want to know if my marriage can ever be legal in ireland? we want it recognized everywhere but i can't see how. any legal advice would be appreciated on any part of this story.

Hi, this may or may not help but I got married to an Estonian in Estonia a few years back.
I had to get a cr*p loads of paperwork together in Ireland beforehand to prove that I had not been married elsewhere before I could get married in Tallinn. Basically, I had to get a load of paperwork together for the Estonian government.
You say you went to the Irish embassy for approval but the Irish government has no say in how you get married in other countries.
What I'm trying to say is, you don't need to "register" your marriage in Ireland. As long as the marriage was legal then you have no problems. However, if the UK marriage was also legal in that asian country then obviously your marriage is null and void.

It all depends on the status of the other marriage if that is a legal civil marriage in the country it took place then your wife is a bigamist and the second marriage is not legal nor can it be so. Ye both need advice and most importantly in the country of her first ceremony.
