Have I been blacklisted & should I email to ask?

Back in January I applied for 2 jobs in different companies through the same recruitment agency. I interviewed for one and got it the same day so rang to cancel the other interview. In May I was laid off, through no fault of my own, from the job. The lady from the agency who gave me the news assured me they'd help me to find other work. Since then this recruitment agency has started advertising for the very same job with the very same company that I was supposed to have the interview for in January but that I cancelled. I have applied 4 times through their website and other jobsites. I've never heard back. I rang their office last week and the woman took my name and number and assured me I'd get a call back. I still haven't heard anything. I'm really starting to think this agency has me blacklisted. I really want to email and ask why no one has contacted me and why, if I was good enough to get an interview the first time, I can't get one 6 months later. Some advice would be great so please help! Should I email or should I just write my chances of getting a job through this crowd off?

Have you considered it from their point of view? They considered you good enough to give you an interview, you didn't consider them good enough for you to attend it. I'm not sure why you expect an interview with this company second time round when you rejected them the first time.

Why not approach the company directly instead of waiting on rec agent to get back to you?

Yep pretty much what davo says, just because you applied doesn't mean you get an interview.

Recruiters are sales people so they'll say whatever in order to make their life easier

The agency could have put you forward but the company might be hesitant after you cancelled your last interview. Or the standard of applicants may be higher this time around. Or they may have hired someone 6 months ago, it didn't work out, and now they've changed the type of person they are looking for.

It could be anything, call the agency and ask but try not to be on the defensive...they found you a job before, they could again.

I got a job, through them. How was that not considering them good enough?!

They are recruiting on behalf of the company you rejected first time round, they may feel that as you were not interested the first time, why should they give you a second opportunity when there may be many other suitable applicants.

Yes but you didn't get the job you wante to apply for again,
The recruiter will screen your cv, it may not even make it to the company.
The company gets your cv and they may not be interested

Either one is likely but you got a job anyway, be happy!

The job may not exist anymore.

They may have just copied and pasted an old job spec in an attempt to get more CVs for their database.

Regardless, there are loads of agencies. Use another one!

I can't. The company with the jobs is using this agency to recruit for them.

If you know the company, why do you have to use the agency?

Try again. Try a different HR person.

It makes no sense they want to give the recruiter up to 30% of your salary when they can get you for free.

Loads of companies work only through recruitment agencies - if thats what they want to do, I wouldn't recommend pissing off HR by labouring the issue directly wit them. Very possible too they've a much reduced fee negotiated for volume of business, exclusivity, etc so 30% might be v far off the mark
