When somebody intentionally avoids being served divorce papers in Ireland, can any legal proceedings take place? What happens generally?

Substituted service. It can be by ordinary post or by newspaper advertisement or I think recently someone was served by facebook. http://www.hayes-solicitors.ie/news/Joseph%20OMalley%20newsletter2012.pdf

Simple answer a person might delay justice but can't stop it.

Thanks for the response. Do you know if it takes long to apply and have substituted service granted? It's my parents' separation and my mum is sick and tired of my father evading service.

I believe it's an ex parte application grounded on an affidavit. I would try to do it now as the term ends at the end of July
