Would think very carefully before deciding on induction hob. Would return to my ceramic one given the chance. Lots of safety features resulting in it always switching itself off. Siemens. Pain having to use special saucepans.

Stay well away from induction hobs of any make. If you enjoy cooking go with gas if not go with ceramic. In the shop induction seems to tick all the boxes but they are just horrible to cook on. I wasted my hard earned on a bosch one a couple of years ago.
    Back to gas now

Different margins for the store and different kickbacks and bonuses for sales reps., it's the same with tyres. Never believe a word you hear from a sales rep. People think that because someone works in a particular business that they are an expert in the field - like a sales rep. in an electrical showroom knows anything about ovens and fridges!

It never ceases to amaze me when I see people standing there in the showroom lapping up the sale pitch as if the guy is giving them impartial advice on what to buy.

I'd steer clear of Nordmende, it's a brand name that was bought from a receiver and has nothing to do with the German brand of years ago, despite their website talking about being established in Germany over 40 years ago.

Back in our Tiger times days we bought some kitchen appliances of good, pricey quality, as we thought....

Chose several Bosch pieces thinking it was a good brand: expensive but reliable, durable, German engineering etc...

In fact, the plastic hinges broke on our Bosch freezer very soon :-( even though it is a fine freezer in all other ways.

And the Bosch clothes washer leaked from underneath quite early on and we have never succeeded in fixing it or even locating the leak (and we are very experienced maintainers of home plumbing)

A bit disenchanted with Bosch, after all that, to be honest. Whereas Miele runs like clockwork for years and years and YEARS....

I don't think a lot of Bosch washing machines are even made in Germany anymore? Not the lower end stuff anyway.

Mielé would be good alright, but you'd expect that at the price! The washing machines are damn heavy compared to lower brands!

I am in the process of replacing a Belling integrated larder fridge, only 3 and a half years old. It had a 2 years parts and labour warranty. Incidentally, it also broke down less than a month after I got it. It was repaired that time. A service engineer told me today that it cannot be repaired now.

The Retailer was not interested in contacting the Distributor about a replacement. I contacted the Distributor directly myself and I was offered a new Belling fridge at a price considerably lower than the RRP.

I will be investing in the extended warranty this time round.

If I was starting out again I would not purchase a Belling fridge.

If you really think you need an extended warranty, buy a different brand.

Every investigation by TV programs and consumer organisations comes to the same conclusion: extended warranties are terrible value for money. Both the store and the sales guy get commission and the insurance company which underwrites the policy makes a profit. There's just too many snouts in the trough.

Every shop you go into has a different take on appliance brands of course to their own agenda! Bad mouthing brands they don't stock and sales people blabbering on about extra functions they don't understand, I found some of the blabbering very amusing, for instance the extractor fan the sales woman was saying how great the extraction was its a 700 but when the carbon filters go in its down to 500 at which point I asked 700 and 500 what?? Is it liters per hour per minute and she hadn't a notion what the figures actually meant!!! And don't get me started on her explanation on a fan on a larder fridge!!

We replaced two appliances in our kitchen late last year, bought a new Siemens induction hob and a Siemens dishwasher. We love the induction hob- takes a bit of getting used to but is so much easier to clean and control is easier. Can be a bit annoying initially turning itself off etc but you soon get to know how to use the hob correctly. We had mostly induction pots and pans so changeover wasn't a problem and to be honest most of the better quality cookware is induction suitable anyway. Dishwasher is pretty good, only gripe I'd have is that the printed "lables" on the control panel/ strip are starting to wear (why aren't they more permanent or embossed), but this is something I've seen with most other brands too. Machine is quiet and uses a lot less water and electricity than its predecessor so that's a big plus. Have an older Liebherr fridge (I think they make fridges for Neff too) and find it good and robust. Don't have any Neff appliances but attended a demo on them out in KAL years ago and was very impressed.
