    That seems stupid!

Makes more sense for Sky Sports 1 to be 401, Sky Sports 2 on 402, etc.

Surely the place for Sky Sports News (headquarters?) is 407.

Sky Sports News is basically an advert for the subscription Sky Sports channels, it will not be scrapped.

UPC viewers have had to put up with Sky Sports on 402-405 for years (because Setanta Ireland is on 401) and I don't think it's particularly confused or bothered anyone. You just get used to it.

Sky Sports News HQ is a stupid name (though slightly less stupid than Skysports.comTV, which I can't remember how long lasted but it wasn't more than a couple of months). The HQ will be dropped within a few months I'd imagine.

HQ for added significance for Deadline Day?

Jim White will be top of the Sports EPG listings anyway. He'll like that.

As I've said before it's worth it's weight in gold for Soccer Saturday. Otherwise it's more interested in news about Sky Sports than sports news.

I would like it if they would offer a full screen option without all the distracting tickers and sidebars.

They do eg 200 but historically they have always started the main genres on X01 - similar to UPC

I think 401 should be sky one it makes sense, having the news on the first channel is stupid not every1 watches it so its only going to confuse the masses.

And Im sure they could utilise the 00 if they wanted isnt playboy on 900? was last time I looked :D

Longer term I can see Sky renaming all the sports channels,

    SS1 - Sky Premiership
SS2 - Sky Cricket and Rugby
    SS3 - Sky Golf
    SS5 - Sky European Football
    SS4 - Sports Mix

This approach is used across Europe and Sky have already experimented with Sky Sports Ashes and Sky Ryder Cup is due in September.

I don't know. To me that unnecessarily takes away any flexibility they have in scheduling. Once you brand your channels like that you are effectively committing yourself and people get annoyed when sports have to move, as they do from time to time.

Any provider that does that still has generic sports channels though.

In Italy they have the F1, Moto GP, Calcio but still have the standard Sky Sport channels.

In Spain they have Canal+ Deportes and Deportes 2 to go with their Golf, football and bull fighting channels.

    And so on

God yeah, it should! Never thought of that before, yet it seems obvious.

They've changed to 401 for marketing reasons and thrown in the HQ to make it look amazing.

    So what?

It's a great channel but weirdly you'll always get absolute clowns moaning about a shift!!

"Its changed to 401 but I think it should be Sky Sports 1 or Sky One"

    Get a life.

Seems they went with Sky Sports News HQ HD (or Sky SpN HQ HD as it is on the planner).

I don't see why they have the SD versions of Sky Sports News HQ and Sky Sports 1 on 408 & 409 and the rest of them on 435, 436, 439 and 440.

Wow. Their marketing department need a serious slap. Terrible name.

It is riddiculous. The new look is very nice, mind you, but don't expect the name to last any longer than Skysports. comTV did.

If they drop the HD part it'll be fine.

It's not used on screen, only in the EPG and promotional materials. They need some way of distinguishing the SD and HD versions however.
