I'm currently working in Ireland as an IT contractor, but will be moving abroad (Oz) sometime in the next year or so, but as I can do my job just about anywhere on the planet, I was considering continuing to work on my current contract whilst I look for new work in Oz.

So, what's the situation with contracting in Ireland if you're not actually resident 'in' Ireland during the time you're contracting?

I was thinking of setting up a ltd. company in Switzerland or something like that and then just carrying on working and invoicing as normal, just without the tax burden. Is this feasible?

The country you are resident in will expect you to pay their taxes. In the hypothetical situation you would not be able to carry on "as normal" without breaking laws.
