My partner (who is 7 months pregnant) is the main breadwinner in the household . She is making around 40k per year.

I am on around the 23k mark.

Her condition is making it hard to do her job and I fear it may harm her pregnancy if she continues to put in the hours required.

If she leaves to go on statutory sick benefit would we be able to get any income support till she is fit to work again? (after the baby safely arrives)

We have a mortgage and one dependant, and both work full time at the moment.

I am presuming that you mean that her doctor deems her sick and she applies for illness benefit. She can receive illness benefit right up until she goes on Mat Benefit. Have a look at the link to family income supplement http://www.welfare.ie/en/Pages/275_Family-Income-Supplement.aspx

Thanks. Yes she has been in hospital a couple of times with pain due to the pregnancy and has been advised to stay of her feet. I don't think the doctor would think twice if she was to ask for a sick cert .

It can be possible that if she is signed off work that work could push for her to start her maternity leave early instead of sick leave.
I would check this out with citizens advice bureau

I've had considerable sick leave before both my maternity leaves and it's never been an issue, never affected maternity leave. I was signed off on last pregnancy which was a twin pregnancy around 22weeks. They were born healthy at 38weeks. I'd have never made it that far had I continued working. Babies more important.
