Ebookers connecting flights

We've a flight booked with ebookers with a connection in London. We're flying to London with Aer Lingus and out of London with Virgin Atlantic.
I didn't realise at the time of booking that luggage allowance would be per airline and check-in may not be necessarily to final destination. Aer Lingus said they'd do whatever Virgin do, and Virgin won't tell me whether they accept connections from Aer Lingus.

Has anyone had connections with different airlines booked through ebookers? After paying so much for our flights, I'd be really annoyed if we had to pay separately for luggage with Aer Lingus.

Im pretty sure I flew to vegas a few years ago booking the dub/london/vegas route through ebookers with aer lingus and virgin and was able to send my bags thru with no problems. It was a few years ago now so not positive of the details but I think its right and we had no problems.

If you buy connecting flights on one ticket your bags will be checked through. You do not need to pay Aer Lingus fees, Virgin allowances apply. It doesn't matter in the slightest who the travel agent is.

Thanks, that's a relief. I'd hate to have the stress if trying to do a second check-in in London.

Just make sure ebookers has sold you one entire journey, and not 2 flights. Ebookers will sometimes make up their own connections.

I wasn't aware that aer lingus and Virgin had a codeshare/ticketing agreement.

Any reference for that ?, Virgin do not appear as a codeshare partner on the Aer Lingus website.

nor does aer lingus appear on virgin's list of codeshare partners

Not positive on this but don't think its about doing code share its about being part of an alliance like star alliance, they are not partners for booking and code sharing its just a loose affiliation that makes life easy for travel agents for booking connecting flights.

I flew Dublin London Chicago with aer lingus and virgin in May, booked through ebookers.

There was no problem checking the bags straight through to my final destination when checking in in Dublin airport.

If in doubt ring ebookers to be doubly sure but your ok.

It's standard airline practice to allow connecting tickets on multiple airlines. It has nothing to do with codeshares or the big alliances or where you book your ticket. If you can buy a connecting ticket then your bags will be checked through. Aer Lingus has a long list of interline partners.

OP we did exact same as you before. (presume London Gatwick)

Bags were check straight through to final destination both ways.

FYI connections is to the left after the stairs in Gatwick iirc.

Thanks for the info everyone! We're going through Heathrow btw. Nice to hear that salmocab did a similar connection. I'll update when we're back in case happens to anyone else, just to be sure to be sure...

Having the courtesy of being able to check bags thru, and having the obligation to look after you in the event of missing your connection are two entirely different things.

For example, Aer lingus has an official codeshare with BA. If you buy a single ticket that has Aer lingus connecting into heathrow to a BA flight, BA is obligated to put you on the next flight and/or give you accommodation should you miss the connection. If you buy the same journey, but on two separate tickets, there is no such obligation, however Aer lingus will be able to check your luggage thru to the final destination.

ebookers sometimes sells "journeys" as two separately booked tickets. So, as per my original posting, the OP needs to check that they are on a single ticket.

The following is aer lingus partner airlines.

The following is the list of airlines with whom aer lingus can check bags thru to final destination

They are two ENTIRELY separate lists.

how can you tell which it is?

This is getting beyond silly. If it's one ticket they are obliged to look after you in the event of a misconnect. It has nothing to do with codesharing. Codeshare is a relatively recent marketing invention. Interlining has been around for donkeys years.

If a travel agent sells you non-connecting separate tickets and pretends they are somehow connecting then it's entirely dodgy. If it has happened to you then name and shame. In some cases it's not possible to do a journey on one ticket because no airlines have an interline agreement for that routing, in which case there's no option but to do separate tickets.

It really is, all I suggested is that the OP confirm that ebookers has sold him one ticket and not two.

I'm pretty sure all Aer Lingus flights to USA have AVOD - screens in front of the seats. I've flown to the States twice with them and we had our own screens both times. Not sure about free alcohol and food....presume you mean aside from the meal you get while on board anyway? Because obviously that's free.

Free meal and soft drink, if I remember correctly alcoholic drinks are buy on board.

You can also upgrade your meal to the Sky Dine product if you'd like something a bit fancier:

spot on i seen someone get the skydine steak it looked good but our normal meal was roast beef with gravy and spuds was quite nice for airline food.

AVOD is good but the system is a little slow and u have to take your time with it. it is touch screen and there is a remote in the seat as well.

Only soft drinks and coffee/tea is free the rest you pay for

Happy to report Aer Lingus checked our bags to our final destination and there were no charges for having luggage with them on the London flight.

On a side note, our leaving gate at Heathrow was terrible! Had to stand in the narrow hall til they opened it and once inside you can't get out even if the flight is delayed... and there's nothing to do or eat. It was absolute chaos then when boarding started and no staff (presumably Virgin) enforcing boarding order or priority. Only been there going to London before so didn't realise how horrible their airport gates are. Anyway flights alright otherwise.

Should've also mentioned that they were able to check our luggage through to our final Irish destination from a morning internal flight and our international flight was in the evening! Just had to get boarding cards...
