Would sending a thank you e-mail after being offered a job be seen as unnecessary and licking ass? I accepted the job offer.

Don't bother, it's not normal behaviour.

Pointless and simpering. Why would you even consider this ?? Make sure you have the correct attitude when you being work ie not this bowing and scraping doormat one

Maybe it's because I've been unemployed for a long time and am delighted to have got the job and be back working. It was just a "thank you for the interview and job offer looking forward to starting blah blah"

The only reason is I read on lots of other sites that it is a good thing to do? It shows enthusiasm and you really wanted the job.

I'm not going to do it now tho!!!

They know you are enthusiastic and want the job, that's why they picked you! Don't send the note, and congratulations.

I asked something similar, as in should I do it after an interview and I was told not to.

"Do write individual thank you notes or letters to each person who interviewed you – within two business days. Each letter can be essentially the same, but try to vary each a bit in case recipients compare notes.
Don’t ever fail to send a thank you – even if you are sure the job is not for you. And do write thank you notes after every interview."
