locked iPad 3 stuck in recovery mode

    Hi,

Doing a favour for an older relative.

Due to a death in the family, we have an iPad 3 which is now locked (incorrect password entered repeatedly). My aunt brought it to a computer repair shop who couldn't fix it and its now stuck in recovery mode.

Before giving up and a restore is done, I told my aunt I'd give it a go since there's some sentimental photos on it. I bought recovery software which works if the iPad isn't in recovery mode.

The normal button sequence doesn't work so I tried redsnOw to get it out of recovery but it didn't work. I'm now gonna try tiny umbrella to see if thatll work. If I can't get it out of recovery mode via that, I'm out of ideas.

    Anyone got any better ideas?

    Cheers,
    M

    Recboot 2 might work

    Restore it possibly

Thanks for the advice so far.

I tried both recboot 2 and tinyUmbrella to get the ipad out of recovery mode.

They both got the ipad out of recovery for a couple of seconds and then the ipad goes back to recovery again. Therefore I can't run the data-recovery software on the ipad.

Obviously I could restore it as suggested, but I'd lose all the photos, which is the reason I've been doing all this work.

I doubt there's much else you could do. I tried both to get an iPod touch out of recovery and nothing would work. In the end I had to restore

Have you tried putting the iPad into DFU mode? Is that what you mean by the button sequence ?

Plug your device into your computer
Turn off the device by holding the Sleep/Wake or Power button and swiping it off
Hold the power button for 3 seconds
Begin holding the Home button without releasing the Sleep/Power button for 10 seconds
Release the power button and continue holding the home button until you get a popup from iTunes that your device is recognized as being in recovery mode.
