Pay and display

Apologies if this is the wrong place but just looking for information. There is a small pay and display car park near me. Has a bank and a few shops. Minimum is 1 hr parking but 9 times out of 10 you only need 15-20 minutes.

Now every time I use the car park someone gives me their ticket and I pass it on when I'm leaving if there is still time left on it. I have seen lots of people do it. Could this practice be challenged by the 'warden' ?

If the warden sees you doing it then they might not be too impressed. There is nothing on the ticket to show that it has been used by another car, so just dont let them see you share the ticket!

Even if the warden sees the ticket being shared, does he have any grounds to take action? Parking is allowed until X time stated on the ticket. If the first car leaves, the time stated is still paid for.

there is nothing to say the ticket is non-transferable. exchange away.

Im not sure what the story with council parking is. If its private parking (NCPS and the likes) then there are no rules really, and you will almost certainly end up clamped.

There will be T&Cs printed onto the ticket (one that springs to mind is that you usually cannot return to the same car park for an hour after leaving), so it would be worth reading it to see if it mentions tranferring tickets.

There's nothing they can do, you either have a ticket or you don't.

Some councils in the uk introduced a system where you had to input the last 3 letters on your reg into the ticket machine, this made transferring tickets nigh on impossible.

I dont know if it is private or council - can't remember. It has been operating for years though and I know this is done every day by a lot of people. I will have to check the back of the ticket next time re the non transferable bit.
