Outstanding piece of skill in the Waterford v Wexford game

I was watching the match on Sky on Saturday night and saw the most unbelievable piece of quick thinking and skill I have ever seen on the hurling field....and nobody seems to be commenting on it so I said I would highlight it here.
The ball is being contested on the Waterford 45m, the ball breaks and on retreat towards his own goal the Waterford half back (or it might have been Brick Walsh from midfield....it happened so fast I couldn't catch it in time) has his hurley entangled with the Wexford player and both hurleys are dislodged.....but in a remarkable presence of mind, on the run the Waterford defender sees the Wexford lads hurley cartwheeling in front of him (as his own is tumbling towards the touchline) so he grabs it in mid-air around his knees and clears the ball in one motion.
It was outstanding. It was at full tilt and his clearance too ended way up the field towards the Wexford goals. To be able to keep his eye on the ball and have the wherewithal to play the hurley in front of him without fumbling and with a Wexford man all over his back was just great to watch. Are you even allowed do that?? Are you allowed use an opponents hurley during live open play??? I wish I Sky Plussed it. It would be nice to watch over again.

Am I the only one who saw this I wonder.

That sounds like outstanding skill. I like those moments:
    - barely any time to think
    - physical pressure on the player
    - very difficult to execute even if had time available
    - executed in near automatic manner.

As far as I'm aware have to play with yer own hurl. Would have to have that rule or people would be grabbing hurleys off guys leaving players with no hurl and maybe player with strong wrists would be playing with two hurleys Saracen style!!

I remember a great picture in A Season of Sunday's a number of years back that, if my memory isn't playing tricks on me, had Eugene Cloonan scoring a goal in the All-Ireland Club final with a hurl with the full-back's name written clearly on it!

Possibly this picture, but you can't make it out in this quality: 060180.jpg

Reminds me of the Galway-Kilkenny leinster semmi-final in 2009 when one of the Galway forwards (could have been Joe Canning not sure) picked up the keepers hurl and tapped the ball into the net.
