Our area is about to live with efibre after years of waiting for decent broadband.
Ive been with eircom years upon years some issues along the way with congestion.
My brother [in another town] had his order lost when he ordered efibre a few months back and eircom simply could not address the isue, after 3 weeks of getting nowhere a phone call to vodafone had him sorted with fibre within 4 days

Im out of contract with eircom, have i anything to gain by staying with them?
Whats the general consensus on who will be the quickets to install fibre? or is it simply a case of pot luck?
Would it be wise to opt for vodafone considering this future venture with ESB im hearing about.

He was unlucky. They order with thr exact same system and the same contractor does the work. What may have hapened to him was there was a databse update right before he called vodafone.

Service is the same with both, phone support I don't know if there is a clear winner. Voda are cheaper and their modem has better wifi from my experience.

Id call eircom loyalty, see what they'll do.

Don't consider esb now, 18 months will be up before they go live.

Edit: also weigh up evision if you might want tv.

I switched to VF after them saying we'd get 85Meg for €25 a month as my other half was on the Red plan with them. To cut a VERY long story short. We finally got it in after 7 weeks of messing about.
No problems with actually getting it in once the order was sorted. A couple of days an done. No problems with the quality. I live and work online and we often have two or three devices going at once with no deterioration.

    For 25 spuds a month I'm happy.

My previous supplier was local and cost us €55 pm for 25Meg.

I can't say I notice any dramatic improvements n speed etc but stability is as imprtant as megaspeed for my work.

We were in the same position at home - had been with eircom for years, finally changed to vodafone when efibre became available.

No difference on the length of install. Vodafone cheaper. Found customer support good and efficient. Had to call them on Wednesday because of issues with wifi and they had it sorted with max 3/4 mins - they logged into the router remotely and fixed the problem.

Only thing to be wary is we were out of contract with eircom but were charged a fee because we didn't give them 30 days notice.

look at a thread posted yesterday, eircom must refund that fee as you don't have to give notice once you're out of contract

Check out the Eircom friends and family thread over on the Bargain Alerts request thread. 30 a month for broadband and off peak phone if you can get a code

Cheers for the heads up. Rang Eircom today and they've processed the refund! Cheque on its way!

Silly question, but do eircom or VF still charge installation fees for brand new customers, (not migrating between suppliers)

Do Vodaphone enforce the 300gb fair use policy? Eircom do seem to be truly unlimited.

    Are eircom fully unlimited?
I decided to go with efibre after and very happy with it so far.
Since i started streaming and got netflix HD hooked up to 2x TVs im hoping it is indeed really unlimited.

For a 12 month contract, yes. For an 18 month contract, no.

I heard they don't and that it's just a precaution to see if there's a virus or something wrong with your line/computer that is chewing up your bandwidth usage.

I'm well over my 300GB usage for this month so I'll find out soon if they do or if they don't.

I've gone as high as 1tb with Eircom (blu-rays you see...) and no problem. Left Vodaphone previously over this issue but that was before fibre. Can't really make the switch until I know for sure.

    Thanks very much for that

    Nope they don't.

They used to apparently monitor usage over 300GB on the old plans but on the new plans (the ones from €45 up) are truly unlimited.

I often go well over 300GB and thankfully nothing happens.

    Use away! :pac:

So, the 35 euro broadband only offer would have limits enforced??????

Actually my apologies, from looking On their website it says that all their new packages are unlimited.

NGA is totally overprovisioned with bandwidth, would be silly to have a limit between now and gigabit ftth.

    From the Vodaphone website....

"Simply Broadband; A 300GB fair usage data allowance cap applies to Broadband usage within each billable month applies. This product does not support voice."

The question is whether that's for real.

So far there are no reports here on boards of anyone having any problems with going over the limit or hearing from Vodafone.

That isn't to say it can't happen in the future, but if it happened already I think we would have definitely heard about it now here on this forum.

Personally I doubt they will ever enforce it. Not with Eircom and UPC both being truly unlimited now.

Thanks, that's what I needed to know. I was just being very cautious as previously I was with BT on unlimited, then forceably switched to Vodaphone who told me I'd remain unlimited, then started charging me.

But, I agree with you, the truly unlimited thing is one of the features the ISPs are using to push people to get Fibre.
