How do these 4G antennas work?

Just wondering how these antennas work. Do I plug it into the router, then place the other end somewhere where has better 3G/4G coverage that is unreachable by the router, and it will use the coverage in the spot of the antenna end, as opposed to where the router is.

You're spot on, you need to be sure the router has an "external" antenna connector and if it does - get an antenna with the right sort of connector on it

Is the coverage around you really bad ?

This is my router, Huawei B683, so it has the connection alright.

Not really too bad, but it is much better coverage in some areas of the house.
Usually around 1.5-2mb, but can go as low as .4mb, and as high as 4mb+
