    Mechanic 'repaired' my engine.
I wrote the whole story but boards failed to save it.
    Summary:
Engine had small drip of oil and failed test.
Engine 'repaired' no gaskets only liquid put in. skimming paid for.
    Engine dripped heavily.
    engine 'repaired' same way.
engine 'repaired' with gasket and copper spray everywhere in the engine, I saw the pistons old grime build up (skimmed?)
    'Mechanic' drunk putting it together.
OIL not changed and old oil put back in. Old oild filter replaced for new one but the old one had copper spray bits all over it.
Garagist drove it for a mile and returned said car is fine I can drive it across Ireland no problem. Quickly closed the door and left for the weekend.
I got in car to see:
    Engine light now on https://www.google.ie/search?q=car+f...ml%3B400%3B300
Garagist does not pick up the phone.
no pressure in engine and not going. Not pulling up, kind of like driving a tank with a 1.0L engine in it.
Other garagist elsewhere states either no petrol in engine or engine dead and I need a new one.
I can not drive the car and do need one urgently.

What can I do? Is the garagist to blame?

Sounds like the 'Garagist' is incompetent. Were they actually drunk when doing the work because this would be also be a good indicator that they're cowboys. Are they registered as a business?

He was drunk working on the engine. So drunk he could not speak whole sentences.

Have you a witness(es) to that?

Mechanic, the word you're looking for is mechanic.

Get it checked out by another competent mechanic and ask them for a report of their findings, he'll hopefully be able to answer your questions

Did you see him working on your car? And you allowed him to continue in that state?

I have a witness and when I went to see the car there was a drunk working on it and some other chap told us to leave immediately as we were not allowed on the premises but i did manage to take some pictures of the engine. We called the garagist who at that time did pick up the phone and he called the garage around the corner. That mechanic came over to place the head back on the engine. When we came back again he was not there and he had left after adjusting the position of the engine block. He told me later the piston heads were not skimmed. The 'boss' as he called it (garagist) finished the job but this was only the last bits. He had to reopen the engine and put in a part that the drunk mechanic had forgotten to put in.
    I had paid already.
I got it checked first thing in the morning as soon as I found a garage open. This mechanic told me the engine is either not getting petrol in the chamber or the block is gone to bits and needs replacement. He did not want to put a report together.
DMC17 how do i find out if they are registered?

You drove your car knowing an, allegedly, drunk man had been working on your car?

I think you need a new garagist.

Nope I do not drive this and it can not drive. The engine is not pulling the car.
If this goes to a court then what can I claim?
If I go to the dealer the bill would be higher than with a non dealer garage. Can i claim for the repairs if they are done by the dealer? At least I will have a good repair then.
Or should I chance another non dealer mechanic?

To be honest, your best course of action here is to seek legal advise. The allegations that you are making against this mechanic are pretty serious, and if what you are saying is true then there is very little that we will be able to assist with over an internet forum. Have a chat with a solicitor, tell them your story and see what they advise.

Garagist??? I'm not sure who is drunk but anything is possible! !!:D

I think I found the problem

    From Wikipedia:
The garagistes refers to a group of winemakers in the Bordeaux region, producing "Vins de garage", "Garage wine".
    No wonder they were pissed.

Seriously though, you should be seeking legal advice if the service was as you described it.

Honestly, this story is so bad I dont believe it but just in case it is true, I think you should also report this to local gardai. Mechanics like this put everyones life in danger. If you dont want to report it to the local station email the garda traffic corps.

Usually when I do some work on my own car, I'd have a can or two :D

    Wow..
I think that all you have to do is have a premises and pay motor trade insurance, I don't think there is a register for garages.
I would go to a Citizens Advice Bureau and tell them your story. They can provide you with free legal aid.

On the receipt they name themselves 'auto*** ' not car***. Nothing on the entrance. Pertain to be part of the garage around the corner but that one told me he has nothing to do with these chaps they just use the same side lane and building. Garage around the corner has an Irish name. I did go to the local garda station on the day he was working on my car and the ban garda on call told me it is not a garda matter. They let me pay for work they did not do, they demolished my engine under influence and they had kept parts that they initially did not put in. They closed the garage and left me standing with a wreck. I can not find any mechanic here that is willing to do the report and it is Sunday. On Monday I have to make the choice do I go back to these 'tanked garagistas demolicas' to let them 'fix' it or go to another garage. The garagistas expect me to come back to them in case of engine trouble. I do not want to let them get their hands on my engine again but they will not pay another garage to fix this.
Is there any real mechanic who is willing to make a report on the state of the engine as it is?
Does anyone know a place to store this wreck for a month till I get sorted with the repairs? I can not pay for these myself as I just spend my last money on this car and do not have more to spare on it.
How long does a small claims court take to get to court?
