Adding a foreign licence holder to my insurance policy?

I want to get my girlfriend on my insurance policy so that she's covered to drive my car. She has a full licence in Brazil, and has been in Ireland about a year. I called my contact in my broker - he said that he can't add her on. Apparently once a person is here for a year they need to apply for an irish provisional. But he did say there are ways and means around this. I'm kind of surprised as there are so many foreign people driving in Ireland and you hear the old "they got their license in XYZ country" moan all the time - and assumed international licences are valid for driving here.

I assumed that maybe someone can get their licence converted somehow. Can anyone tell me if there are any other options?

I'm sure in the long run she probably will get an irish driving licence but it's not going to happen in the next few months - but I'd love to be able to let her drive in that time.

    Any help appreciated.
