Squat Maintenance

I've been following the 5X5 routine and got my squat up to 140kg for 5X5, which is great as I've put on muscle and lost weight. But I'm not in training for competition and now have found my thighs don't fit most trousers so I don't want to get any bigger so how should I train now?

I thought maybe I'd drop back to 110-120kg and slowly go back to 140kg and then repeat.

Is there any danger doing this other than boredom?

I like to do some form of squat during pretty much every gym session I do... doesn't always have to be compounds with heavy weight...

Tend to limit heavy compound squatting and deadlifts to 1/2 sessions a week.

You could do goblet squats, side squats, front squat with lighter weights / more repetitions... my personal favorite at the moment TRX Jump Squats

    Drop bodyfat?

I think my bodyfat is low enough, 33" inch waist but I would need to loose about 10lbs to have abbs showing, but would that make much difference to my leg size.

But getting to 5x5 140kg squat pretty much had me wreaked for 4-6 months, so now I've built the strength I'm happy to level off at this.

    Just buy loose fitting trousers.

Or trousers with a bigger waist and wear a belt.
