yes but at €800 a return flight to IL with Aer Fungus im holding out to see if i can run a couple together over a week or something. its a pain in the butt not knowing all the dates so I could maximize my airfair and what not or hit cities that are within a few hours (10 or so) drive of each other

I'm hoping that he will decide to come back with the European leg of the tour but it all remains to be seen..

I'd expect him to have more than the one show in Chicago, more like 5 or more so plan the week around that but best of luck getting tickets!!

Well guys, so it's refund time. Any idea what I can do if I bought tickets from a guy on adverts?? The tickets are real before you ask but am I down my money? Any help would be great??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,865 ✭✭✭Mrs Garth Brooks

I'm hoping to see him once the madness calms down over there. So Chicago is out.

Also it seems as if he's only giving 6 weeks notice with an announcement of tour dates. E.g. The announcement of Chicago this week and 4th of Sept is 6 weeks later. The idea behind it is to prevent ticket touts from planning ahead. ...But this doesn't give us fans much time for planning.

Can anyone hazard a guess when he'll play over on this side of the world, I won't say Ireland.

Edit: New music is out next week. It is in the states anyways. So you can expect his website and his digital downloads up and running by then.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 277 ✭✭ciaramc

Wish all the dates would be announced. Hard to plan anything if dates are only announce 7 weeks in advanced, going by the first tour date announcement. Hoping for European dates, would love if one of the dates tied in to hols next year.

Anyone think there is even a small chance of Garth ever coming back to Ireland to tour?

If he bought them in a ticketmaster outlet, you will be able to get the refund yourself as tickets paid for with cash are refunded to ticket holder. Take a look at the ticket and it will have cash or visa etc written on it.
If bought by card, just contact him, you have nothing to lose

Well, I found an American country music magazine, named Country Air Check, dated 14th July 2014. I have it as pdf. I was going to upload the whole thing for you here but the file is too large to upload. So instead here's page 19 from the magazine. New music next week. Whether that is a single or an album, I don't know. But something is on the way anyway. YAY

Probably the official release of the call with trisha?

    Ohhh, I like that.

Its makes sense too, considering he's touring with her in September.

Yeah, I though he said new music on 'Black Friday', anyway, was passing by a pub yesterday and everybody was singing, yes you've guessed it, Garth Brooks :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 467 ✭✭paddyirish23

looks like he's added 3 more dates to his Chicago leg, they just gone up!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,865 ✭✭✭Mrs Garth Brooks

Edit: Its now 7 dates with two shows on a weekend night.

Sept 4, 5, 6 with two shows on Sept 6.

And Sept 11, 12 (two shows), Sept 13(two shows), Sept 14

    So 10 concerts in total.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,865 ✭✭✭Mrs Garth Brooks

And the new music was originally being released for the Dublin concerts but they are holding off until Chicago to release the new single.

    So Dublin fceked up everything.

He would have played it for us too.

4 shows in 3 days, that's impressive. If only he had the chance to do that in Dublin.

yes, fortunately he can as it's a different type of show to the ones that would have been in Dublin.

Will be in Chitown at that time, not sure if tickets will be available. But I am damned sure that if 10 dates have been announced for the Allstate Arena, then demand throughout the US is going to be HUGE.... Dublin really F***ed up on this one IMO. Could have been a fantastic gig... but we will never know.

It was mentioned in an interview yesterday that the 10 concerts is just an opening special part of the tour.

But, yeah the demand will be huge all over. I was going to wait until the madness calms down to get tickets but I dont think that will happen.

Or you could snap a ticket up for Electric Picnic and go and see Portishead and Beck.

No thanks, going to Nathan Cather in Galway and James Taylor in the O2. Thats my cup of tea.

Than Portishead? I understand it's relative but there's very few bands on the planet that have a show as good as Portishead, never mind Garth Brooks.

yes. i've seen plenty better than Portishead.

can imagine they'll bomb at EP given the crowd and the outdoor main stage.

Just like they did in Glastonbury last year? One of the highlights of the festival by most people's reckoning.

The Other Stage at Glastonbury is not the main stage at EP, by a long way.

    anyway, that's off-topic.
Brooks's stage shows are legendary and Beck or Portishead at EP wouldn't come close, and are a different genre altogether, so it's a completely daft suggestion.

The Other Stage at Glastonbury has a larger capacity than the main stage at EP (or indeed - the entire capacity of all stages at EP!). So your point is clearly undermined - Portishead are demonstrably more than capable of knocking a large stage outdoor festival gig out of the park. It's rather unlikely they'll bomb at EP.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

i never said anything about capacity so I've no idea how that has anything to do with my point. the crowd demographics are completely different.
as are those between Garth Brooks and Portishead.

so it's a completely silly remark.

How exactly is the EP crowd demographic different from Glastonbury? And when you state that you "can imagine they'll bomb at EP given the crowd and the outdoor main stage", how is that not referring to capacity? If not capacity and an outdoor, festival context, then what are you referring to? It's as if you're unaware of the claim you're making?

Portishead have a clear record of delivering lauded performances in exactly the context you outline. It's irrelevant that their genre is different from Garth Brooks - it's you who's claiming they'll 'bomb' in a large outdoor festival stage - despite the evidence to the contrary.

because the crowd at the EP main stage is completely different to the type that would go to see Portishead at the Other Stage at Glastonbury.
it's a crowd that turned out massively for Fatboy Slim and Two Door Cinema Club and was largely indifferent to My Bloody Valentine.

I didn't say that they'd bomb in a large outdoor festival stage. I said at EP I could imagine they would on the main stage.

Not in my experience - but I'm still curious why you believe so.

it's a crowd that turned out massively for Fatboy Slim and Two Door Cinema Club and was largely indifferent to My Bloody Valentine.
Because My Bloody Valentine put on a poor performance with an awful soundstage. Nothing to do with the demographic. Two Door Cinema Club and Fat Boy Slim have played The Other Stage at Glastonbury.

I didn't say that they'd bomb in a large outdoor festival stage. I said at EP I could imagine they would on the main stage.
And yet you remain coy as to your perceived reason for this claim.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

i stated my reason, the crowd that the main stage at EP attracts.
if it will make you happy, i'll recant it, and say i think Portishead will be a roaring success on the main stage at EP.

back to Garth Brooks....his stage show looks far better than when what I've seen live from those 2, and anything I've seen and would expect at EP.

HLW, save up your money and make a trip out of it, there'll no doubt be playing non-stop well into next year so should be plenty of opportunities to see him.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,309 ✭✭✭✭alastair

i stated my reason, the crowd that the main stage at EP attracts.
Which would appear to be identical to The Other Stage's demographic? You're not doing your case any good by failing to substantiate it with actual evidence.
if it will make you happy, i'll recant it, and say i think Portishead will be a roaring success on the main stage at EP..
At least that has the merit of plausibility - if not consistency.

Oh, and Take That's Circus stage show puts anything Garth Brooks has put together, in the shade. If spectacle is your prime criteria, then festival performances by anyone will be a bit of a let down. Musically, on the other hand...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,539 ✭✭✭ghostdancer

there is no "actual evidence" to give. it's all opinion and personal experience. i've seen Portishead indoors and out. outdours at a festival they were not good. indoors, they were. EP's main stage attracts a much more casual music fan in my experience.

i've seen TT's show too, it's excellent. up there with Brooks in my opinion. far ahead of Portishead at a festival. i never said spectacle was prime criteria, but continue mis-representing my posts if it helps you deal with my criticism of Portishead.

Your criticism of Portishead that's at odds with a pretty firm consensus that they absolutely provided a highlight of Glastonbury last year, on a stage comparable with the main stage at EP? Do keep digging.

Garth Brooks was due to release a new song to radio today. In the States, anyways. I don't know about other places and if Irish radio stations played it. Did anybody hear it yet? I'm listening to online radio and hopping from station to station in the hopd of finding it. No luck yet.

I'm due to check it out now.

Is there an online shop yet from there I wonder with merchandise.

I see the image on his site/web screen is still of the 97 Dublin gig. Although with a new tour starting today, who knows, that might change when they gather up some new pictures from his gigs.

I hope GB does a concert dvd of his tour although but with it due to be 3 years, it could be after that by the time we get a concert dvd from him.
