Primer recommendations

Hi guys, I *finally* found a foundation that matches my skin tone, and I absolutely love it. The problem is, when I put it on, it seems to take to some parts of my face better than others (it's liquid), and looks as if these parts of my face are dry. I don't think it is dry, it doesn't look it without make up, and this doesn't happen with other liquid foundations I've used. So I'm thinking (other suggestions if you think I'm wrong are gladly welcome!) that what I need is a good primer; thing is, I've never used one before, and wouldn't know where to start!

I have pretty normal skin, not spotty, not dry, not oily. My budget is €25. Does anyone have any recommendations/advice on how to use? :)

    What foundation is it?

I have oily-combination-sensitive skin and I love the Smashbox oil free primer. Get a sample before buying though because its not cheap. Its a bit as above your budget though :(

They have as travel size too http://www.boots.ie/en/Smashbox-Travel-Size-Photo-Finish-Foundation-Primer_1281406/

You could probably buy it online for less than €32 I'd say,! :)

I'd second the smashbox primer, I bought an inglot one in a moment of madness and it feels awful on my skin!

Definitely smashbox photo finish primer! I was one who never used it because I didn't really know what exactly it did but after trying samples of this I actually couldn't live without it! Foundation goes on so much better, looks so much better and stays throughout the day; a winner! It is a bit pricey but I wouldn't even think twice about paying for it now because I know how much I need it.

Thanks guys! Sounds like the smash box one is The One! :D I'll definitely check it out...how long would you say you get out of it? A month? (Too optimistic? :p )

I hated the Smashbox one. My make up didn't last at all when I used it. I would definitely recommend trying to get a sample first. It's a lot of money to spend on something that might not suit you.

If I used mine every day I would get about 2-3 months from it, but I've had mine for about a year now, as I haven't been using it every day. Definitely get a sample before buying it though, because I know a few people who can't stand it, so it's really a personal preference.

I don't like the porfessional by Benefit, it did nothing only sat on top of my skin and my make up would slid on over it, I'd have take it all off and start from scratch.

The Max Fax Facefinity is nice, my make up looks better over it, but my make up doesn't last longer or anything.

Stila One Step Correct is meant to be good, though I've never tried it.

This NARS one is another good one too http://www.hqhair.com/nars-cosmetics-multi-protective-primer-spf30/10532557.html

Their eye primer is amazing. I wouldn't be without it now. It's absolutely the best eye primer I have ever tried.

I've tried a sample of this MAC before and its OK, nothing amazing, not worth the price in my opinion.

I've read mixed reviews on this Urban Decay one

    http://www.feelunique.com/p/Urban-Decay-B6-Vitamin-Complexion-Prep-Spray-Travel-Size-30ml

Avoid No.7 primers, they are all awful.

EDIT: Just went to order that NARS eye primer with the 10% off and its excluded from the promotion, typical! :p

I have an elf mineral primer which I got to replace my smashbox one as I didn't have the spare cash for a new smashbox and it is just as good. I notice no difference between the 2.
I also have a bare minerals one that I like too. The elf one was about $4 and the bm was about €19 I think? I have also tried a Clinique one that was given to me and it's useless! Doesn't sit well on my skin at all.

The paese matte primer from cloud10beauty is great and not too pricey. I also love the no7 primer but wish it was cheaper or a bigger size for the price.

Similar to Smashbox but in my opinion way better is the primer from arbonne...you can only buy it online but it's fantastic!

I use GOSH primer and it's brilliant. You can buy it in Superdrug, Boots or Debenhams for next to nothing. It's my number 1 make up product.

Just a note on primers in general as there are a lot of people here claiming a particular primer makes their foundation sit funny. There are two types of foundation and two types of primer to match, silicon based and water based. You absolutely need to match like with like because they do not mix. Usually aqua will be one of the top ingredients on water based ones, but sometimes it's not as straightforward as that. Here is a fairly comprehensive guide on how to tell http://www.reddit.com/r/MakeupAddiction/comments/25hkqi/how_to_tell_if_your_foundationprimer_is_silicone/

OP for your particular issue I'm not sure a primer will make a huge amount of difference, although it should help a bit. If the foundation is sticking to patches of skin it's because there are patches of dry skin. If there were no patches of dry skin then the foundation wouldn't have anything to stick to anymore than any other part of the skin. A primer will cover that a little, but it will likely still be patchy. Exfoliating and moisturising is the only way to fix it properly.

Thanks. I don't think it is a dry skin issue, as this doesn't happen with any other foundation that I've tried (and I've searched long and hard to find the right colour!!). I think I probably put it wrong by mentioning dry skin - the skin isn't dry, but in areas - under my eyes, around my nose - the foundation seems to sit and look a little chalky. This could be an issue with the foundation itself, but as it's the first one I've found in years of searching that perfectly matches my skin tone, I don't really want to give up on it just yet!

I thought priming my skin might be the issue - it's not something I've done before - which is why I've asked, however if anyone thinks that might not be the issue I'm keen to hear other suggestions! I mentioned dry skin more as an explanation of what it's like, in that it sits heavier in some patches, but it's not because those patches are dry, it's because that's where there are areas for the foundation sit (as I've said, under the eyes, around my nose).

I've been so busy this week I haven't had a chance to try and pick up a primer & try it out to see if that helps the issue, but thanks for all the suggestions and replies!

Ah sorry, I was picturing something completely different. Primer is definitely worth trying so.

Another thing that might be worth experimenting with is how you apply it, different people have different experiences with using different brushes/fingers/beauty blenders etc. and each can give different finishes depending on different foundations and different skin types.
