Can a full/fault alarm be fitted to an existing septic tank?

If so whats the best type?
Does it need a mains supply?

We've had the septic tank pump fault 3 times, i think if we had an alarm it would have highlighted the problem earlier.

Yes, a high level alarm can be fitted to an existing septic tank, it usually involves a float switch hung at a high water level and when this is activated the float switch makes the alarm circuit which turns on a warning light/buzzer. Most floats for sewage i have seen are mains supply

Are you using a sewage pump in your tank or a water pump? Water pumps usually dont last long in tanks as they are not designed to handle the solids found in septic tanks.

    Thanks Dante,
thats good to know, I suppose these float alarms can be bought in any hardware store!

We have a septic tank pump but Im led to believe the issue was with the installation and not the pump, an outlet pipe or something not connected correctly and the water then getting upto the electricals of the pump itself.

I'd prefer to get away from the dependancy on an electric anything if that were possible  another post.

Floats can be commonly found in plumbing stores but i havent seen actual float alarms, but thats not to say they arent available online.
I can PM you where to get parts and you could get electrician to put a cable out and connect everything up, its very straightforward.

Your right the pumps are usually the most troublesome part of wastewater system, put if you have to pump up to percolation area im afraid there is no other way, how high are you pumping?

Thanks Dante, send me on details of where to purchase an Float alarm.

(I don't know the details of the tank so I can't say, it was done by "professionals").
