Daily Usage?

    How much daily usage would be considered too much? My internet has been useless the past few months and I was told that we're "flooding the connection with way too much usage". Here are some speed tests for the past two months:

    It's meant to be a 2mb connection but is progressively getting worse. I haven't seen a ping below 100 this month.

    I use about 3-4gb on average per day, through streaming netflix, youtube, gaming or downloading stuff from Steam. It's an unlimited plan so that shouldn't really be a problem but they say there is nothing wrong with our connection and we just need to stop using it so much.

    For me that would be high usage. Whoever you are with might be throttling your speed at peak times if it is effecting other users. What company are you with?

    What would peak times be? I'd be up pretty late and even at 3-4am in the morning still get the same results.
    Provider is Westnet, fixed wireless company based in Mayo.

    Peak times would be after 6pm. I've never heard of that company before, so I wouldn't be sure if they throttle users.

    Thats not high. its about 120GB a month which if you watch netflix is easy to reach. You have a 2mb connection so you cant be taking up that much of the connection.
    I think for wireless (mobile networks anyway) its a bit more of a problem hence the lower limits but giving you unlimited downloads at 2mb should not cause an issue.

    I've had a look for their fair usage policy, and I can't find any specific numbers. Best I could find was: http://westnet.ie/acceptable-usage-policy/
    If we feel a customer is using what we consider to be excessive amount of bandwidth then we will take steps to change their behaviour on our network.

    So it's probably safe to assume they're throttling the connection.

    From the look of things you are more than likely being throttled by your ISP.

    This is ridiculous as you're only on a 2Mb package so you can't exactly be eating up all their bandwidth!

    Edit: From looking through their website I've found this;

    "Users whose usage is deemed excessive on a regular basis will be contacted and restrictions will be used if the activity persists."

    You're definitely being throttled OP.

    Nothing is blocked, that isn't the problem.

    I emailed asking for some more specific numbers about the fair usage policy anyway.
