Match thread In memory of Mike65 :P

Liverpool begin their preseason proceedings away to Danish giants Brondby on Wednesday, travelling to the Brondby Stadion as part of the hosts' 50th anniversary celebrations.

The Reds are looking to engineer widespread improvement on the back of a resurgent 2013-14 campaign that almost saw them crowned Premier League champions.

The midweek fixture in Copenhagen gives Brendan Rodgers a chance to hand playing time to those Liverpool figures both established and otherwise, with a look forward at who to watch out for detailed ahead.

Eight-and-a-half years after leaving the Danish capital to join the Anfield cause, Daniel Agger will return to a familiar setting on Wednesday when he takes on former club Brondby.

The centre-back is set to captain the visitors upon making his comeback and spoke out on Twitter to show just how excited he is for the fixture, as well as reaffirming where his loyalties lie these days:

Agger was a contentious figure in the Liverpool starting XI last season and will be looking to edge out the likes of Mamadou Sakho, Martin Skrtel and Kolo Toure this term.

To do that, however, a confidence-boosting preseason would certainly help his chances, and it couldn't begin in a more accommodating away setting.

Johan Elmander will be the most familiar face among Brondby's ranks, the former Bolton Wanderers and Norwich City striker having made the move back to Denmark in June of this year.

According to Transfermarkt, Elmander has made seven Premier League appearances against the Merseysiders, failing to find the back of the net in any.

Liverpool would be foolish to underestimate the Swede, however, as he looks to give Brondby an experienced edge up front some of the younger specimens among Rodgers' roster will find difficult to contend with.

It's thought that Wednesday's match will be a little too soon for summer acquisitions Adam Lallana and Rickie Lambert to make their Liverpool debuts.

    Liverpool Squad :

Jones, Agger, Coutinho, Lucas, Allen, Ilori, Borini, Suso, Ibe, Kelly, Coady, Skrtel, Flanagan, Adorjan, Smith, Phillips, Rossiter, Wisdom, Jones, Ward, Teixeira, Peterson, Stewart.

Liverpool a poor outfit without Suarez. This is what you look like when you sell world class players. I predict a 7th place finish.

Ilori gone off with hamstring injury after 22mins. Kevin Stewart on.

Stewart sets up a goal. For Brondby. Although Suso got the last touch. More Suso's bad clearance really.

Poor old Stewart. What an introduction.:D

    Fúck off Rodgers.

Gone so far backwards this year.

I knew selling Suarez was a mistake.

In fairness most of the squad started back on monday after a month of sitting on there ass drinking beer and watching the World Cup.

I know I wouldn't be up to much after that except sitting watching the match on tv and typing about it on the internet.:p with only a day and half of training.

Lucas and Coutinho both nearly stole a goal there.

Half time now. Stewart looking very shaky, all the attacks coming down his side of the pitch and he is struggling. Suso looking good going forward, but offering no help to Stewart going back.

Stewart coming on to play for his childhood team is showing the nerves we would show at his age I think.

The rest of the team starting to get a feel for the game as it goes along after having the summer off.

Touches from Coutinho even when not anywhere near match fitnees just shows the natural skill the guy has.
