Hi, would be grateful for any advice on this. Have promised 8yo boy tablet for his birthday. He wants it mostly for minecraft but also some other online games and youtube.
What size screen can I get away with - is 7 inch too small?
Is 8gb enough for hat he wants?
This is his first and he's only 8 so not going for anything high end. Argos have google nexus 7 32bg for €125 or Acer Iconia 8gb for €99 - both 7 inch. There's an Acer Iconia 7.9 inch 16gb for €125.
    Thanks in advance

My daughter also wants to buy a tablet with her Communion money.
My thinking is 7" is too small for an 8 year old. I also read that the high end tablets with superior screen quality is often wasted on kids so I have been looking at a Hanspree 10" on Amazon.
Obviously with the bigger screen you're talking shorter battery time and for an 8 year old they won't be so good at keeping it charged.

I'm still not totally sold on what to get yet, I hope you have luck finding the right device for your lad.

I got him a 7 inch Acer for e99 in argos. He is very happy with it so far, and the screen is plenty big.

    geat, hope he enjoys it.
I ordered a generic 10.1" tablet running Kit Kat on Amazon for my daughter, if we get 2 years out of it I'll be happy.

My 8yo is happy with the acer, he uses is mostly for minecraft (pocket edition). its holding up well, even if screen is constantly grubby!

    Thanks for that.
It's so hard to find reviews in non-tech talk.

Do you need an internet connection to play the pocket edition of minecraft?

Santa is going to bring a tablet to my 6 year old daughter and we won't have access to internet over the Xmas at the inlaws and she wants to get into Minecraft.

You would only need to be connected to the internet to download the app I would imagine, there are multiplayer modes that won't be available but simple player would be fine.
