Timing a farm transfer

    Hi all,

Lets say you're taking over father's farm from 2015 onwards, am I right in assuming most farm transfers aren't done prior to the Halloween of the father's last year in charge?

From others experience here, should ya just sit tight til late October/early November when things I'd imagine would start moving on the transfer or could bits and pieces be done this early in the summer? Surely if one's documentation is in order, a transfer need not take longer than 4-6 weeks? I've heard of delays encountered by fellas with various things during the transfer but really, I assume most lads tackle the transfer after Halloween when most of the year's major work is done???

Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Don't know how related this is to you but advisor told us here to not to join the herd number until after first payment of sfp as it gets held up other wise

I would advise starting it in september/october with a view to having land and entitlements transferred a few months before the following year's SFP needs to be submitted in May. Can be a pure calls of a process with delays from solicitors, accountant and land commission. I barely made it for may this year after starting last september.

use email to correspond and ask for a timeline off the solicitors

I got one sorted last year from mid april to mid May. I couriers the spf transfer and forms to Portlaoise the day before deadline
