What car to buy next (<4.0k)?

I'm going to be upgrading the automobile in the very near future, thought I'd see what people's opinions are to get. the price range is max 4,000 as stated in the title.

The type's of car's I've been thinking at are:

Subaru Legacy
Honda Accord
Mazda Rx8
Peugeot 407
Merc E-Class or C-Class
BMW 3 or 5 series
Audi Estate
Or some kind of fast hatch

Engine size or Petrol/Diesel isn't too much of a big deal, only drive about 10km every day and the odd trip here and there.No kids or dogs or anything so that's not a deal at the moment (and hopefully the foreseeable future!:D)

Any recommendations, advice or example's would be appreciated!

For your price bracket I think you should consider engine size and running cost factors. If you're going to buy a car for under 4k are you willing to pay €1800+ a year in tax alone?

Maybe think outside the normal choices people make
Saab 9-3. You could get a nice one for 4K

Any kind of performance orientated car for under 4k could end up costing you 2/3k in the following 12 months to put right if you buy a bad one. There is a reason people sell these kind of cars for small money and it's not always down to the Irish big tax/big performance depreciation factor. It's because the have big maintenance over due or due soon on them and it they don't want to financially commit.


Up your budget slightly and i know where there's an Audi S3 with all the big jobs already done by the current owner (a sound lad!)
