Ok, this is simple. There will be categories for each type of car. I randomly draw them off against each other, and you all vote. I will leave it to members to nominate cars for each category.

    These will be the categories:

    Hot Hatches:

Anything from 1975 onwards in the hot hatch class can be named here. 16 cars. You may nominate specific versions of a certain car(i.e MkI GTI, MkV GTI) will be considered different cars.

    4 Door Saloons:

Rather then a specific model(M5 etc), nominate the entire range, E39, Passat B7 etc. 16 cars

    Coupe:

    406, E46, E92 etc. 16 cars.

    Sports Car: 1990 onwards

16 cars, anything from the Diablo to the 911, to the Veyron.

    Convertible:

    8 cars. MX-5, S-2000 etc.

    The everyman car

No more then 1.9 litres. Corolla, Golf TDI, etc. 16 cars.

    Classic sports car:

    1989 or prior. 16 cars.

    Classic everyday car:

    1989 or prior. 8 cars.

Hot hatches will be up first. Your vote can be based on any criteria you wish. Performance, styling, commercial success, character, basically you can justify your vote any way you wish.

The first 8 cars will be:

    VW Golf GTI Mk I
    Seat Leon Cupra
    Renault 5 Turbo
    Ford Focus ST
    Honda Civic Type R
    Alfa Romeo 147 GTA
    Ford Fiesta ST
    Peugeot 205 GTI

The next 8 nominated will be added and all cars will be drawn automatically.

Should stimulate some healthy debate given the division on hot hatches around here. :pac::pac:

Which Focus ST, there's more than one type (but only one real one worthy of being on a top list :P)???

Edit: Same actually goes for the Fiesta ST... and the Cupra and the Type R...

How about owners nominate there own cars? it will the nominations list in each category more simple, and give it a more 'boards.ie' feel.

    I dont quite follow.
Do i nominate a hothatch or an example from each category?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,594 ✭✭✭tossy

My thought was people can only nominate a car they own, or another boardsies car. It is the boards.ie motor rumble after all, otherwise it's just a thread with 7 or 8 different pics per post and it just becomes a chore to look at it.

You can nominate your own car if it falls into a category, or a car you have previously owned.

If we don't get the numbers, i'll make up the list.
