Hey guys. I'm a long time boards.ie poster but what to go anonymous on this one. Anyway I'm working away in a foreign country. I'm on a 1 year working holiday visa which is coming to and end soon. I'm thinking of getting a 3 year extension but I'm not sure. I really miss home. I miss my family and friends. My original plan was to stay here for a year and then go home and go to college. If I go home when the visa is up and apply for college I'm just worried that I'll regret leaving here (NZ). On the other hand I could always go home and go to college and if that doesn't work out I could always come back as my current employer said he'd take me back if it didn't work out at home. If I get the 3 year work permit and get sick of it after a year that's it, no more NZ.
I feel that at this stage of my life I should look to my long term future career. I'm currently doing drainlaying which I don't enjoy. I've always been into tech and computers and such. I'm 27 now and think that if I don't do something now and go to college to begin a career I enjoy I'll be stuck doing something I don't enjoy for the rest of my life..

Go to college! Get the education you want, then you have choices, real choices.

I wouldn't worry too much about that, always time in life to shift and change. Can't really answer what is best because it's what you want at the end of the day. If you are focused, you can be successful no matter where you are.

You're currently in a job that you dont like and your visa is coming to an end.
You want to go to college to do computers.
Could you come back, go to college and when you graduate maybe consider going back to NZ ?

Here's the hard question you must be asked, you're not allowed bull**** yourself in your answer. Why do you think someone who is a drain layer has the tech savvy to be a coder, a sys analyst, a serious computer person? I'm not being vicious but at 27 you'd better have some foundation in computers other than using done deal to think about getting into the industry.

This guy has always been into computers and is only doing drain laying while in Nz. So he knows he would be able for it.

Ive always been big into computers. Ive built, serviced and upgraded my own and my familys many times. Same with mobile phones. Made a few android apps, rooted, debranded and installed custom roms. Im a qualified tradesmen but my heart was never in it. Computers and technology is what I breath for. Pretty much and encyclopedic knowledge of phones haha. Its a career I havent had chance to presue yet and I think its about time I did..

Sounds like you know the answer already !! Could you apply for the course you want from NZ ? Or could you do it part time over the their years you're there, best of both worlds while you decide what you want to do ?
