If I want to record with a saorview/freesat box how many cables must be connected to the box.

I have 2 satellite cables with an existing sky plus box so is it similar to this.

    thanks.

If its a combi box with one input for each, you'll need two cables. One going to dish and one to an aerial that picks up saorview.

will this allow me record one channel and watch a different channel at the same time.

Better to have 2x sat and 1x terrestrial, this would allow you record one channel and watch another on satellite (if the box supports it and has 2x sat tuners)

Use your two satellite cables if the box allows it and get a One 4 All aerial to pick up saorview.

Some on here will tell you that you'll need a 50euro aerial mounted on a chimney pointing to Mars but you'd get saorview with a coat hanger if you're in a good spot.

I don't recommend them because around the TV is usually in the area in the house with least signal, usually downstairs surrounded by concrete walls and chimney etc. Money is better spent on an aerial in the attic (signal permitting). You can easily send terrestrial and satellite signals down the same cable and split them again with a pair of diplexers

If it is possible, mount an aerial for Saorview near the dish and use a splitter/combiner to put the Saorview signal down one of the satellite feeds and use another at the other end to split it out again. This will give you two sat feeds and a Saorview feed, so you can record/watch two channels on satellite and the single Saorview feed can allow the same.
