Hello, i was at mass this morning and when I was walking out I noticed a newspaper with Brazilian soccer player David Luiz on it and the headline was 'hypocrite', it was one of those religious newspapers and I if anyone has a copy I would like to know what it was about.

The priest was talking about the World Cup and how sport can be a distraction from God so it may be linked.

Why are you still going to church in 2014? It's outdated.

Wow, they really are grasping at straws now.

What's next? "Colouredy bits of paper, Catholicisms new greatest enemy!"

Why are you still going to church?

    To pray for David Luiz!

I hope the people that produce the paper have 100% clean records otherwise it seems a bit of a hypocritical thing to print.

I would have thought the church would be delighted with distractions.

I think you'll find the Catholic Church and hypocrisy go hand in...smaller hand.

Apparently YOGA and TAI CHI are now on the hit list...
"Dont endanger your souls by taking yoga classes", priest warning to parishioners..

Maybe he should have a chat with Pope Francis who's a big World Cup fan

But yeah, an obsession with too much of anything from sport to religion to atheism is not healthy.

Especially kids who do yoga and watch the World Cup.

If quoted correctly, that Priest explained that very badly, but then again if he said something well it would hardy be news or reported.

As a Leeds fan and an atheist I have to say that Michael Nugent needs to get a life. The club has far bigger problems than the religion of the new owner!

Isn't Michael Nugent a member here?

Just saying, maybe best to ask the chap himself rather than being relayed weird second hand impressions from folks with an axe to grind.

Pope John Paul 11 who has just been canonized was a huge supporter of Cracovia Cracow and when he was younger was often on the terraces supporting them on. He was also supposed to have been a talented goalkeeper.

I suspect he saved more goals than souls though.

It's not very 'Christian' to be calling someone a hypocrite is it? Especially in a 'religious' newspaper.

Surely having newspapers at Mass would be a distraction in itself?

'Sport a distraction from God' ?

    Options:

    1) Bread and circuses (popular)
    2) Hell and damnation (not so popular)

I will take no 1 thanks.

Impressive! I wonder how many units it's shifted to be 'Irelands Fastest Selling Prayer Book'. :)

We used to get a 'newspaper' called ALIVE! put through the letterbox, although I don't know if it's church-sanctioned. It was a feast of bigotry and misrepresentation. The writers would have done well with the Daily Mail. :)

Alive is absolutely bananas. Is it actually Catholic though, or is it one of the fringe sects who actually makes it?

It's got to be the more extreme fringe. It doesnt even attempt to hide the intolerance or extremism.

There is a disclaimer on the cover that it is the view only of the editor, the church can't prevent its publication or distribution, I know many Priests who don't allow it to be distributed outside their church.

I'd heard of it (nationwide circulation my ass), but honestly Candie, WTF did I just read? :pac:

Funding shows ‘Catholic’ group just a gay front

Even Daily Mail standard was putting it politely (my local SPAR gives out a copy of the DM with every coffee, I've told them I'm alright for toilet paper).

I'm just gonna go with one batshìt crazy individual on this occasion, the editor of that particular hate rag, a bit like that other clown in a clerical costume pushing HIS own individual brand of nonsense.

If the Church didn't want enemies in "DE MEEJA", maybe it shouldn't have ruled with an iron fist?

My household got a copy of "Nearly Dead!/Alive!" once, it ended up next to the dog's bed for an obvious purpose.
