    Hi all,

in a farm transfer when the solicitor requires your original birth cert (among other documents) when dealing with revenue etc... should you expect that original returned to you in due course or is it a case of purchasing a new one?

    Cheers

The original one should always come back to you, I have no idea where you're buying birth certs

Yeah it's a good thing to know, 20 euro I think it costs if you're stuck for an original.

I think this is a "middle man" site where they take your details and apply on your behalf, the certificate then costs €40.

The official HSE site is http://www.hse.ie/eng/services/list/1/bdm/Certificates/

On the HSE site, all certificates (birth, marriage and death) cost €20 each plus €1 postage.

    Every little helps. ;)

Or visit in person. I dont know where Leitrim issue certs, Kovu, probably at the hosp. in Carrick, but for Cavan there is a little building on the right hand side just inside the Hospital gates. You can register children's births there, get certified copies of both Birth certs and Death certs , and also post the Bans for your upcoming marriage.! Also sometimes there are gatherings of very colourful people (mainly African) all dressed in their finery for a civil marriage.

Regardless of which county in the Republic of Ireland you were born, you can apply to the registration office in any county.

    List of addresses here.

In my experience Government bodies return (after taking a photocopy) original State documents, including birth certs, decree of separation/divorce etc..
