I'm currently in a 4 month internship but due to some family/unforeseen circumstances I'll have to quit the internship a month early. How much weeks notice should I give and do I need to write up a resignation letter ? And would it be ok if I asked my manager to give me a reference letter even though I left a month early ? Any advice would be appreciated !

Notice period will depend on what your contract states. You'll need to see how your boss reacts to you finishing early to decide whether they would provide a good reference.

One weeks notice on internship contract,if you give one weeks notice cant see why he shouldn't give you a reference.

I don't have a contract with them and there's nothing said about it in the employees handbook either

It was more that they offered me the job, told what the conditions were and then I agreed to them (in email) and then they never asked me sign a cotract
