Don't want to exactly Apple bash but...

3/4 year old phone for nearly €300...

    Are people mad?

    Get a Moto G for €150 or a Nexus 5 for €350.

    You won't regret it.

But this is not a Bargain Alert, not a hope.

You're not comparing like for like though.
I just had a quick look to find a cheaper refurbished 4s and didn't.
Saying that I wouldn't pay that money for one.

Appreciate the effort OP, but IMO, its not great price. The 4S is getting old fast.

If youre absolutely intent on getting any sort of iPhone, I suppose its alright, but much better(and much newer) Androids and Windows Phones can be had for that price or cheaper

Such as Nokia 520 for 60 quid on o2, does all same stuff and its new

Yep I don't see the big deal on the iphone myself. just recently bought the nokia 625 for €99 in carphone warehouse and is a great phone imo.
Daughter would have got one if her current phone was broke then instead of now and then paid a few euro to have it unlocked as she is with 3.
But I know deep down she would like an iphone but her budget was ment to be €200 which I know is considerably less than this iPhone

I wouldn't give that for it. I sold my iPhone 5 yesterday for 250 euro! now I still have it away at a cheap enough price but I wasn't giving no 279 for iPhone 4G that has been refurbished! hold out for better deal somewhere else.

sorry for bad spelling in previous post but it's my new galaxy s5:) iPhone is the still the best and most RELIABLE phone so stick with that I feel for your daughter, just find a better deal somewhere else.

That's a good deal. I sold mine a few weeks ago for 250 and had no shortage of takers.

Even though age is against it, There is absolutely no comparison between the 4S and the Nokia handset you picked up. 4S all day.

must have been in a pretty bad state & locked to let it go at that price.

    .

I beg to differ and there is a big fad out there to have an I-something. However if people want to spend money, its up to them

Not a bargain alert as others have said, it's an old model. That said, I have had a 4s since it was launched and In my experience its a really durable phone, replaced the battery last Xmas and it's like new. No other phone I've ever owned has lasted as long.

There are definately more advanced android and windows phones now with better features and screens etc., but if you're like me and only need the basics like email, browser etc it's a good phone.

Id say the only advantage the 4S has is the better app selection, and that's not even a commentary on the hardware itself. The screen is a slightly higher res, but its a good deal smaller

just to weight in my own experience, I have the 4S, the phone itself is pretty good overall. Speed is not that big deal for a hardware that is a few years old, most of my apps run fine speed wise. The on board memory is a bit of a kicker as it is limited to 512mb (IOS takes about 150mb by default, yikes!). Battery last two days with mixture of data and wifi.

Facebook app is the worst apps ever created on IOS by far IMO, as it is the only app that crashes on my phone for nearly every 10 minutes of use. It is like facebook didn't even bother optimising it and this is where the low memory issue comes in.

You can beg to differ sll you want but it does not change the fact that the 4S is a better phone. Nothing to do with being a fad

iPhone has better resolution, better screen & a better camera (for starters).

iPhone camera, screen and IOS are the main pluses and though I type this on my trusty old 4s I have to say that the Moto-G 4G is a much smarter buy even though you lose out with the camera.

Nokia 520 is a lovely phone but apart from price wouldn't be a contender quality and power wise between the 4a and the moto-g.

I think its a reasonable bargain for apple product. While its 2 generations old, apple still sell it new for 399€ for 8gb model. Apple refurbs usually pretty solid.
Edit: prices on ebay do seem a fair bit lower for similar

In a few months apple will release next generation again and at that stage it will probably be discontinued and wont get next OS 8 update

I wouldnt be overly worried about ram or OS updates myself. I still use iPod touch with OS 6 and 256mb ram daily alongside a quadcore android with 1gb ram. I find it as fluid if not easier to work with for lots of stuff. Haven't found myself missing too many apps because I'm on IOS6, 180 apps installed. Some games will need faster hardware but I imagine there's very little iPhone 4s won't run on the app store and will be a long time before major apps stop supporting it.

Not a big fan of getting tied into apple buying apps and music etc and hardware a bit pricey, itunes kind of sucks etc but its still solid hardware and platform for lot of people

I don't see the point in paying nearly 300 quid for 2 year old tech that probably won't get anymore updates

Can people not comprehend what a bargain is? Like cheaper than elsewhere.

Contributing that money can be spent better on a android or windows phone really has no relevance.

That definition still doesn't necessarily mean its a bargain, but you're right, people can spend money how they like. At the same time though, it is an open forum and that means people are going to offer their two cents, whether requested or not.

Eh, no. For 99, the Lumia 625 is a much better purchase. I've used both.

Blah blah standard post something about an iPhone get dissed by Android lovers...........

That said i'd be looking for a second hand iPhone 5 if that's your budget OP as the 4S i'd imagine will be quite slow with the upcoming IOS 8 as the 4 was with IOS 7.You'll also get 4G compatibility (unless your with Vodafone as they only support the 4S)
