UPC - Stick or Switch?

    Hi all,

I hope you don't mind me asking for your input. I'm a current UPC customer with the full package including movies and sports etc running on two of the old HD digital boxes. I'm paying just over €100 per month but don't really use the sports and movie channels any more (thank God for Netflix etc) and want to reduce my costs so I'm thinking of switching my package to Horizon Max http://www.upc.ie/television but keep my existing digital boxes instead of migrating to the Horizon boxes which I've only ever heard very bad things about. I don't need broadband or phone services as I get these FOC from my company who pay for broadband to my house so I can work from home from time to time.

Good idea to keep the old style digital boxes and downgrade to the max package (€39 per month + one extra box) or should I be looking at getting rid of UPC all together and getting in Sky?? I've never had Sky so don't know if their equivalent to the UPC max package is better or cheaper or both??

    Cheers,

    Ben

If you're not interested in broadband, phone, or premium services, and you are able to do it (and can afford the initial cost), Saorview & Freesat might be your best bet - it comes down to at that stage how much you would miss Sky One (at lot less than if I asked that question ten years ago, I'd wager) Setanta Ireland, or Sky Sports News.
