You know the kind of thread or op or reply ....that goes, Ireland is rotten corrupt little country or we have the worst public services in Europe with the highest costs.. or we have the worst roads and public transport and education system in the western world!!!.... or every one else is getting away with it...it being not paying their debts or living the high life on welfare and the op is working like a slave just to get by.

Are they just moaner or do they truly believe it.

Its the truth so why would'nt people moan about it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,673 ✭✭✭AudreyHepburn

A bit of both would be my guess.

My more cynical side though thinks that the majority of it is just whinging because they can and because it's the thing to do, to stick it to the man.

its the truth from their perspective. probably never having lived anywhere else! look at italy! got corruption and bad hospitals to the power of ten of ours.

Not so black and white. They are moaners but they usually have a point. Often a very exaggerated self pitying point but nonetheless a point.

Did you hear the NCT stats for 2014 yet? over 50% of cars have failed so far with the highest issues being headlight alignment and front suspension... a direct result from potholes!

I did not say Ireland is perfect its not, simple example in the 80s there were no playgrounds near me at all now there are 3 and one is an excellent adventure playground for older children, I remember before the M50 and the half finished M50 and getting stuck in horrendous traffic in Kildare town now there are motorways. I have had to use the health system lately both public and private and I have had access to an excellent services in the public system. For every thing that is wrong so much is good but nobody every seems to see that.

    No, you're miserable ****es.

There is an awful lot of countries out there that are actually ****ed up, and who's people would kill to only have our problems (and kill for a lot less).

Ireland is consistently placed highly on lists for happiness, education, quality of life etc.

We have low crime, high education rates, a functioning free democracy, we are largely an equal society, we don't have anywhere near the obscene gaps between the haves and have nots that other countries do, we have peace, no major civil strife, we are well respected internationally, have high life expectancy etc.

Things could be better, but they could be an awful lot worse.

You don't even have to go to the third world to find places we are better off than - try being poor and unemployed in America, try dealing with the massive social inequalities and discrimination they have in France, the massively high youth unemployment in Spain, or just try having to be a German!

Every citizen of every country ever complains about their public services etc.

Sometimes they are right to complain about stuff but most of the time it's just having a bit of a moan.

I wanted to go on them all, however my husband wouldn't let me as they are only for children, the zip wire looks great fun.

Awful state it is in, still wouldn't swap it for any of the alternatives.

Post colonialism hang up where every establishment is seen as the enemy because it an authority.

People here would rather scr*w the man than fix the system and complain that it is broken while doing everything in their power to break it some more.

Of course, like everywhere else, we have our problems. Some of us are trying to fix them while others whinge and moan, often quoting third-hand anecdotes from airhead TV - see above.

However, we can't be THAT bad because Ireland produced these moaners and they, as you know, are perfect. Oh, I do hope they don't like move away to like a "better" like todally ossum place.....like.

Watched Stacey Dooley's Homeless In Detroit documentary last night and I would now be pretty reluctant to complain about Ireland ever again.

They believe it but don't put any thought into it.
