We were thinking of going to Pheonix Park for a BBQ like we did a couple of years ago and have a BBQ with family but I'm finding conflicting information online as to whether they are banned now?

Has anyone been there recently and had one/went to have one but found they were no longer permitted?

Supercell I've moved your thread to Dublin City for more local answers.

Last I heard you could BBQ in the car park but not on the grass. This was at the Wellington monument. Could be out of date info now though

You could ask the opw to know for sure http://www.phoenixpark.ie/visitorinformation/

Thanks, If someone else that's been there recently doesn't answer then I'll give them a shout directly.

They used to allow BBQ's up around the the ordinance survey offices. Its a triangle there and the opposite edge has a bbq area. Not been there a while so it could have changed.

Generally seems to be accepted as long as its not on the grass you are ok. I've seen them on the concrete plinths surrounding the benches and people who bring the ones on stilts. Just don't situate yourself near the long dry grass or wooded areas, for obvious reasons. Never really found the Phoenix Park great for a BBQ though, very windy most days.

But don't use the tinfoil ones on the tables - holes have been burned into picnic tables because of people using these, which caused a clampdown on the BBQs for everyone.

Too much danger of setting the entire picnic table on fire.

Those tin disposable BBQs are a curse...not only do they not cook food properly and burn everything underneath them, but they tend to be abondoned in situ all over the place.
I was up in Blessington at the weekend and the whole lakeshore is strewn with them.
