The crew of a naval destroyer is forced to confront the reality of a new existence when a pandemic kills off most of the earth's population.

I've seen the first 3 episodes. It's been a bit of an American military porn fest so far. The American military guys are awesome at everything and they even get to fight with all they're old enemies, who remain determined bad guys despite everything.

It'll be interesting to see how it develops, or if it develops past showing off how cool the American military is.

had to laugh at the al queda guys in that second episode, that was completely ridiculous. But it's not a bad show, plus Rhona Mitra..

It reminded me a lot of this

I've just found it today. It's not bad. But I do find myself a little annoyed at the plot and some of the conversations. It's no way as good as strike back. But it will fill the gap.

This series is being run again on Sky 1, on Fri eve.

Just saw the first episode, and looks good enough to invest a few more hours.

Rhona Mitra ?? She is easy on the eye, but omg ... does she ever shut her mouth? She always has this fake-earnest trout pout, who goes around with their mouth open all the time?

Its shockingly poor. Made it to episode three and gave up. Its crap.

The missus and I stuck with this, it gets better. Its no TWD but worth sticking with in our humble opinion.

I have space on the hard drive, so I will let it record a few more and see how it goes. There is always a time when there is NOTHING on the TV, so this has to be better than nothin' ...... right?

Just seen the last episode this evening, this is actually a great show, pleasantly surprised at how much they upped the ante in the last few episodes

I might go back and finish it off so.
Last I left it they'd taken care of the Russians.

For once something somewhat realistic without shuffling corpses or vampires or other fantasies.
Somewhat realistic in the sense that WTF happened to utter self contained enviroments of the USN/Russian Navy, called ballistic missile carrying submarines that go out on patrol and dont surface for 5or 6 months at a time??? Or entire carrier battle groups that are and can protect themselves against NBC infections? Forgetting about that slight bothersomeness of reality [and US /Russian naval tactics],it is entertaining and looks like season 2 might be a whole lot better.

Its an ok show but not great. Its basically a ship at sea and the whole world is gone mad. Can,t be that much they can write about that. Has it got a season 2 yet or got confirmation that there will be a season 2. There was a show some time back about a submarine and its crew that got abandanded by the us navy and goverment and were stuck on some island. Can anyone remember the name of it. Think it might have gotten cancelled unfortunatlly.

    Peace and long life.

Bad guys coming from nowhere in the artic, getting clipped by a helicopter machine gun and grand an hour later, holding your hand on god knows how much electricity, which I'm fairly sure doesn't work like that, and hoppin up straight away while some fool says 'bad ass' to you, and countless more nonsense in one episode. The Americans must really gobble up this ****e how else can it make it to production. Really poor show

I'm beginning to think these shows are simply American propaganda, I'm sure they had to make some compromises to borrow that ship off the US Navy. These shows and cop shows like CSI paint the American civil services like infallible supermen.

Shows like the wire probably show what it's really like, but CSI is what Americans want to believe.

just on the point of electricity, the human body can sometimes survive a direct lightning strike. More voltage than would ever be in that junction box on the ship.

that being said, even a small shock from a household fusebox can be fatal too.

  • Registered Users Posts: 28,789 ✭✭✭✭ScumLord

There are a number of reasons that people can survive lightning strikes, I think it's a different type of electricity from what you get in your house, something to do with that AC/DC thing.

Another thing that saves people is the fact it's often raining and they're wet allowing the bulk of the charge to move through the water surrounding the person. One guy got saved by his iPod, the bulk of the strike went through his headphone cable.

could be, although the captain would probably have had a 2-way radio/walkietalkie on his person at the time or at least some other electrical gadgets common to carry aboard a warship

After the "hi, I'm a terrorist" group and the " hi, I'm the black, female, lesbian, army girl" I'm out.

    Subtle it is not.

    Navy, dude, big difference :D

Agree with that episode being terribad, but it does turn around

It's the amps that get you - not the volts. (that said, generally speaking high voltage means high ampage)

Yeah totally agree it all seems to be geared towards the Americans believing their invincible. God help any poor nation tackling that ship it's unstoppable! Shame it's piloted by b rated actors and a ludicrous storyline

To be Fair, the Nathan James , ie the ship, is a arleigh Burke class destroyer. If you read a little on them, they are pretty scary ships. I would not say invincible, as you can never say at, but scary as ****, definitely. They are around 1-2 billion each to make, depending on the version.

So if you are going to get stuck on a ship this would be a god one to pick.

I thought there were 10 episodes, and that was all for season 1. Season 2 has been given the go ahead which is good news if you like it.
