Social Welfare/BTEA Query.

    Hi,
I would appreciate If anyone could advise me on my situation.

I am a full time student going into my 2nd year of studies on the Back to Education Scheme. Last year my payment was reduced because my wife was working so I got €124 per week.

During the summer (even though I'm looking everywhere for work) I've been forced to go on Jobseekers Allowance. I'm getting €188 per week. My wife lost her job in May of this year so the social welfare added her as a Qualified Adult Dependent at the rate of €124.80.

She has not yet made a Jobseekers claim herself as she is 31 and considering having a child now. As per the new conditions re BTEA which came into effect last year, what is the maximum I would be entitled to on my BTEA from September this year?

Many thanks in advance for your replies.

    Hi SMcDDB,

My friend & her hubby were in the same position last year, she went back to College and moved onto the same scheme.

However her payments did not change she got the same amount, the only difference was moving from Jobseekers to the Back to Education Scheme and then back again to Jobseekers in June (when course ended).

    Hope this helps

    Good luck with the course.

If she is still not working when you return to BTEA and you she is still an ADA on your claim then you will receive what you are currently receiving. BTW you are always on jobseekers allowance but with a category of BTEA this category is removed for the summer.

It might be worth her while to make a claim in her own right. Alot of schemes no longer allow a spouse to swap to participate.

Spousal swap is still available for BTEA.

I didn't say it wasn't but his wife may be interested in something else.

    I never said you did.

You did state that a lot of schemes no longer allow a spouse to swap to participate.

I was just clarifying that spousal swap is still allowed on btea.

    BTEA QUERY

Hi everyone , this is my first post on Boards . I would appreciate any help on my BTEA query .

Basically I've just been provisionally approved for my allowance , but its subject to approval by my social welfare case officer.

I'm just wondering under what circumstances would a case officer disapprove and deny a student BTEA ?

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanks for any replies .
