New tower at Dublin Airport?

    Hi Guys,

    May interest some people and maybe news to others, Was passing down the airport road there last friday and was appeared to be was a new tower.. Only stood out to me as new as i seen lads working on it and looks failry new.

    Its at this location where the maintenance vehicles are parked up, Any idea what is with the new tower?

    It looks like a primary radar head of some sort, which gives a positive paint regardless of a transponder being on the aircraft, which is the shortcoming of secondary radar, which depends on the aircraft being fitted with a transponder.

    Some GA aircraft may well not have a transponder, and primary radar will pick them up, depending of course on range and altitude.

    Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

    Given it's position it looks to me it looks more like a surface movement radar. That is a radar to track aircraft and vehicles on the ground.

    If you look around the airport there should be one or more either in place or about to put in place around the perimeter of the airport.

    Yeah I believe it's a new surface movements radar that gives better coverage than current system
