2006 Ford Focus 100k Service

    I have a 2006 Ford Focus 1.6 Auto that I bought with 97k kilometers on the clock. It's now on 106k. I've heard that cars are supposed to go through a major service at 100k - is this normally miles or kilometers? The log book for the car doesn't seem to detail all the services so I'm a bit wary on when this car was last serviced (I know, I should have checked this before I bought the car). I have checked the oil etc and have topped up when needed but that's about it and haven't had any major problems with it besides the odd cut out.

    If I do have to get it serviced now, what should I be expected to pay? Do any parts need to be replaced, e.g. timing belt?

    General service is about €140, which covers new oil filter, oil, maybe diesel filter, perhaps pollen filter, and a gawk around the vehicle for any other things that need to be changed. Different places include different things in the package. If you have no record of doing the timing belt then you should definitely get it done.

    Agree with Noccy_Mondy...definitely do the timing belt. While you're at it perhaps consider replacing the water pump as well, it's located close to the timing belt and would cost roughly the same amount of labour as a timing belt if done later on (2 birds...1 stone).

    Ok these cars have a 20k service interval with every 60 k being a full service so if your car was serviced to spec it should only be due a small service.

    On top of that timing belt is due every 160k km or eight years.
    Brake fluid is reccomended every two years and pollen filter every year.

    Unless the OP has proof that the timing belt was done then I would highly recommend getting it done. Sure it will cost some money but better to be safe than sorry.

    Where did i say not to do it i gave the op the ford reccomended service schedule.
    And if you read what i said i told them it was due every eight years which would mean it is now due.

    Where did i say not to do it i gave the op the ford reccomended service schedule.
    And if you read what i said i told them it was due every eight years which would mean it is now due.

    Just for clarification, I was on to Ford servicing and they confirmed the timing belt:

    "It has to be replaced @ 160k or 8 years"

    Good stuff. You might consider an independent mechanic to do the work for you, a lot cheaper than going to a Ford dealer. Maybe consider replacing a water pump as well while you're at it (not the Ford recommended pump, go with a 3rd party pump). Sure check the price on what a pump will cost you and make a decision then.

    Estimates I got from official Ford dealer: €300 for service and €375 for the timing belt.

    Estimate I got from a local and reputable garage: €140 for the service and €275 for the timing belt.

    Big difference there.

    If you don't know the history I'd just get a full service done on it, regardless of mileage.

    If you're confident me mileage is correct then I'd use the manufacturers interval for that.

    I personally wouldn't bother changing the water pump on one of these as part of the timing belt job.

    The water pump is driven off the auxiliary belt and water pump failure on them is very rare so not much point in changing it IMO.

    €300 for a service from a Ford dealer? Something wrong there, my local Ford dealer has something like €160.

    I won't mention the garage but it's one of the biggest in Dublin. That's what their service department quoted.

    Just following up on this a similar situation - I recently had my Ford Focus serviced by Ford. There is 62km on the clock - it is 06 petrol.
    They also told me I needed a timing belt due to age - every 8 years.

    Should I go ahead a get it done - I will be going to my local garage and not back to Ford. There service deal at the moment is €120 but it ended up costing me €230 and then they wanted to put on two new tyres at a cost of €220 (mid) or €360 (top) for the two. Got them locally for €120 mid range.

    Any opinions

    Just out of interest: If you trust your local garage enough to do the timing belt job then why didn't you also give them the service work rather than going to the main dealer?

    You should definitely get the belt done in any case btw.

    Cheers thanks - I went to the Ford dealer because it is beside where I work and there is no public transport to work from where I live. I will have to take a day off for the timing belt.
